Job Description

SUMMARY

Primary responsibility is to provide supervision, guidance and support to all Rack Bar team leaders and operators ensuring operations efficiency to meet production targets. Additional responsibility is to teach and lead the implementation of continuous improvement in the facility by establishing, analyzing, prioritizing, and leading/coaching continuous improvement activities within the FleP RB value stream using Bosch Production System and Shanin methodologies.  Duties and tasks are frequently non-routine. Resolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Enforce/improve standards of safety and ergonomics, quality, productivity, and housekeeping with respect to 5S standards.  All aspects of production are to be driven by lean manufacturing principles of predictability, organization, and efficiency improvement (through the elimination of waste). 
  • Allocate labor in response to fluctuating orders; set priorities for production.
  • Guide labor by enforcing the handbook policies (i.e. absenteeism, standards of conduct, discipline, etc.).
  • Guide teams in productive recordkeeping of scrap, traceability, downtime, rejects, and required control plan checks and inventory accuracy.
  • Ensure proper handling of non-conforming material.
  • Immediately inform appropriate personnel of issues including downtime, quality, component quality, and availability that are an obstacle to production. Must be able to develop an alternative strategy to overcome obstacles.
  • Cooperate with other shifts to satisfy weekly production goals.
  • Ensure adequate training of production operators to allow for flexibility in labor allocation to meet production goals
  • Support Training Coordinator with training records and matrix for assembly lines operators to ensure records are accurate and maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental health and safety policies
  • Conduct regular audits (Quality- LPA, Workstation, 5S, Operator, inventory. Etc.)
  • Implementing BPS and operational strategies amongst all shifts.
  • Project manager for System CIP focus topics.
  • Developing reporting techniques through I4.0.
  • Tracking of all projects in standard A3 and PDCA formats, storing in a standard database which will be developed, including identification of project teams and project kickoffs.
  • Coaching to operations teams in A3 and PDCA methodology as needed.
  • Perform cost-benefit analysis in support of targeted projects, while ensuring compliance with the business plan goals.
  • Champion of 5S in B101 operations areas, including relevant non-production areas identified by operations leadership.
  • 5S PDCA ownership and standards deviation reporting for the production areas.
  • Participation in all internal and external continuous improvement workshops and events, traveling may be required in some cases, but not to exceed 15% working time.
  • Support safety committee meetings as required by operations leadership, using this team to help the organization reach the quarterly continuous improvement goals.
  • Provide recommendations to leadership for future projects, acting in a proactive manner to foresee challenges in operations.
  • Execute benchmarking activities by recommending workshops and events internal or external to Bosch, as well as identifying team members to participate.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university plus one to three years related experience and/or training in manufacturing operations and/or continuous improvement.

Language Skills:

  • Good verbal and written language skills required

Mathematical Skills:

  • Basic math skills required

Reasoning Ability:

  • Individual must have ability to make independent decisions that may be of a complex nature. 
  • Works under minimal supervision. May assist in orienting and training lower-level employees.

Leadership Skills:

  • Ability to act as a member of the management team in addition to performing duties as directed by the department manager.  Ability to coach and mentor the Associates on the Assembly / Manufacturing lines in your area(s) of responsibility. Ability to assist the department manager in fulfilling the specific objectives and goals set for the Business Unit.  Individual must possess the interpersonal skills communicate with coworkers.

Computer Skills:

  • Must have Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software.  Must be capable of learning other software packages (Ex: SAP, Test, Measuring Software, / KPI).

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

The ability to work in an office and manufacturing assembly/machining environment, which could include sitting or standing for much of the day.  The position requires the ability to stand/walk, bend, twist, grasp and lift up to 45 pounds on occasion.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
