About Halter

At Halter, we’re on a mission to enable farmers and graziers to run the most productive and sustainable operations. Our customers are using Halter to break free from the time-intensive constraints of conventional practices. Imagine watching 500 cattle stand up and walk calmly towards their next break? No quad bikes, no dogs, no fences. Just a group of cattle walking at their own pace. People say it looks like magic. Our customers are revolutionizing grazing with Halter. It's changing lives and transforming an industry. People join Halter to do meaningful work. By joining us you’ll be solving challenging problems within a talented team and a culture built for high performance. Our team out-think, out-work and out-care. We’re committed to delivering real change in the world - this isn’t easy, and in truth, we love that it’s hard.

We’re backed to deliver on a mission that matters by Tier 1 investors including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse ventures.

About the role

We’re looking for a motivated, hands-on Fleet Ops Manager to lead our fleet operations on the ground in South America. When we say Fleet, we mean the hardware - collars and towers that are what makes us Halter. This is a rare opportunity to build something genuinely new, leading a team and getting Halter up and running in a region with enormous potential for cattle producers.

You’ll own the operational system for the region from the ground up. That means leading and developing a team of Fleet Ops Specialists, owning the maintenance system, and making sure our hardware infrastructure runs without a hitch. You’ll be the first point of escalation when things get tricky in the field, and the person who makes sure the right people are in the right place at the right time.

South America is a critical and exciting market for us. You’ll help us understand the unique nuances of cattle production in the region and feed those learnings back to our product and engineering teams in Auckland. What you and your team learn in the field will directly shape what we build next.

You’ll work closely with dedicated teams in South America, the United States, and at Halter’s Auckland HQ. You’ll play a key role in making sure our pioneering producers in the region get an unmatched experience from day one.

What your day could look like

  • Lead and develop your team: Lead, coordinate, and support a team of Fleet Ops Specialists across day-to-day operations. Support their growth, give great feedback, and help them focus on what matters.

  • Performance management: Own performance management for your team. Set clear expectations, hold people accountable, and help everyone do their best work.

  • Planning and scheduling: Plan and schedule team workloads to make sure the right people are in the right place at the right time across the region.

  • Recruitment: Lead recruitment activities to keep the team resourced and all roles filled across South America.

  • First point of escalation: Be the go-to person when things get tricky in the field. Help your team find solutions quickly and keep operations moving.

  • Own the maintenance system: Build out, improve, and own the maintenance system for the South American market. Make sure the team runs it consistently.

  • Hands-on when it counts: Get hands-on with maintenance, hardware upkeep, and repairs when needed. You’re a player-coach, not just a manager.

  • Hardware diagnosis: Diagnose hardware issues in the field and feed findings back to the relevant internal teams quickly.

  • Deployment support: Provide on-site and remote support during farm deployments including drone mapping, installs, go-live, and collaring. Own the scheduling and execution of collaring activities on new and existing farms.

  • On-call: Support the global on-call roster for hardware-related incidents and make sure your team is well set up to do the same.

  • Data and insights: Collect, interpret, and analyse data from our hardware to optimise processes, resolve issues proactively, and inform decision-making. Track team output and surface insights to improve how the team works.

  • Field insights: Feed learnings back clearly to our product and engineering teams, so we’re always building what matters most for South American cattle producers.

  • Collaboration: Work closely across Halter’s teams to stay aligned and drive strong customer outcomes.

  • Travel: With producers and your team spread across South America, you’ll be on the road regularly. Expect 3 to 4 days a week and some nights away from home.

  • Whatever else it takes: This is an early-stage market entry. You’ll do what needs doing to make Halter succeed in South America.

Who are we looking for

  • Proven leadership experience: You’ve led field or operations teams before. You know how to build a high-performing team, manage performance, and develop people.

  • Hands-on experience: Practical experience with tools, electrical work, construction, networking, or equipment fitting is a must. You’re comfortable getting your hands dirty alongside your team.

  • South American cattle production experience: You know the land, the animals, and the way producers in this region operate. This is a must-have.

  • Go-getter attitude: You’re proactive, you take ownership, and you’re not afraid to figure things out on the go.

  • Strong communicator: You can translate what you’re seeing in the field into clear, actionable feedback for a remote product and engineering team. You set clear direction for your team and keep everyone aligned.

  • Organised and structured: You manage workloads, scheduling, and competing priorities across a team without dropping the ball.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity: This is early-stage market entry. Things will be imperfect. You’ll thrive on that rather than be frustrated by it.

  • Commitment to excellence: You take pride in delivering the best possible service and hold your team to the same standard.

  • Willingness to travel: You’re up for regular and sometimes spontaneous travel across the region.

  • Language: Spanish + English fluency is required.

Bonus qualifications:

  • Broader agriculture or agri-tech experience beyond cattle production.

  • Experience scaling a team in an early-stage or high-growth environment.
