After School Debate Instructor

We are seeking a Debate Instructor for our afterschool program at PS166! This position offers the opportunity to help Kindergarten through 5th Grade students build confidence, strengthen their communication skills, and develop critical thinking through engaging debates and public speaking activities. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about communication, enjoy working with children, and can create a supportive environment where every student's voice is valued.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Actively engage and motivate students during debate lessons and activities.
- Develop and implement engaging lessons focused on public speaking, persuasive communication, and critical thinking.
- Facilitate age-appropriate debates, discussions, and collaborative speaking activities.
- Encourage respectful communication and teamwork among students.
- Collaborate with the admin to manage student progress and behavioral expectations.
- Communicate effectively with management regarding student and program-related matters.
- Utilize company-wide digital platforms to perform administrative tasks (e.g., taking attendance, submitting incident reports as needed, etc.).
- Foster a vibrant, inclusive, and fun learning environment by consistently offering a positive and enthusiastic approach to teaching.
This is you:
- Experience working with students, preferably elementary age.
- Punctuality and reliability are a must!
- Ability to clearly communicate rules and expectations to children is essential.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills are highly valued.
- A high level of professionalism and motivation is expected.
- A neat and professional appearance is appreciated.
- Strong public speaking and communication skills.
- Ability to encourage participation while creating an inclusive classroom environment.
- Passion for helping students become confident communicators.
The Schedule:
- Day: Tuesday (part-time availability)
- Time: 2:40 PM to 4:20 PM
- Season begins September 2026. We are looking for candidates who can commit for the full 2026 to 2027 school year.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Enrolled in or graduated from a Bachelor's program in Education, Communications, English, Political Science, Theater, Journalism, or a related field.
- Experience teaching or working with elementary-aged students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate young learners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching debate, speech, Model UN, mock trial, theater, or public speaking.
- At least one year of teaching experience, preferably with elementary-aged students.
- Experience developing age-appropriate lesson plans and facilitating group discussions.
