Building Inspector Intern (As-Needed - On-Site)

JOB SUMMARY

This position is under direct supervision of the Building Inspector Supervisor to be trained as a Building Inspector. Learn the Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, and other codes and ordinances related to building construction.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learn to perform building inspections in a variety of specialty trades (i.e.) Structural framing, Plumbing, Electrical, and Mechanical.
  • Learn time management, planning and organizing skills to perform the duties as a Building Inspector.
  • Learn effective and oral written communication skills to effectively perform the job as Building Inspector.
  • Learn to relate interpersonal sensitivity, assertiveness, and stress tolerance, to function under stressful situations.
  • Learn to handle several tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail in any environment of frequent interruptions.
  • Learn to read and interpret building plans.
  • Learn to work effectively with government entities, contractors, homeowners, and often professional clientele.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 + years of experience in building construction related is preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Possess, or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, an International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Residential Building Inspector.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Require extensive physical exertion during on-site inspections.
    • Require physical flexibility & dexterity, including the ability to continually stand, bend, stoop, reach, crouch and climb.
    • Must be able to travel to client sites and/or job sites.
    • Require working in sitting position with computer for extended periods, occasionally.
    • Often working outside in all weather conditions.
    • Work in elevated places, noisy environments, and dark areas, occasionally.
    • Require walking, bending, and sitting.
    • May require lifting up to 35 pounds.
    • Require the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and multiple projects.
    • Occasional overtime work may be required throughout the year.
    Salary Range
    $27$34 USD
