Job Description
We're looking for AI Engineering Team Lead to help shape the future of AI-first decisioning platforms within our Sofia engineering organization. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll combine deep technical expertise, architectural ownership, and people leadership to deliver intelligent systems at scale.
You'll play a pivotal role in transforming how we build software - embedding AI into the core of our platforms, driving innovation, and building teams that deliver meaningful business outcomes.
You will report to Software Engineering Director.
What you'll do:
- Lead the design and delivery of AI-native, production-grade systems integrated into core decisioning platforms
- Build and operate scalable, secure, high-performance AI services
- Define architecture, system design, and engineering standards across teams
- Embed AI capabilities into business-critical workflows
- Contribute hands-on to development using modern backend technologies and best engineering practices
- Champion clean code, testing, and engineering excellence across the SDLC
- Lead, grow, and manage a team of engineers with clear ownership and accountability
- Coach and develop team members in both software engineering and AI capabilities
- Drive performance, feedback, and career development processes
- Promote adoption of AI engineering practices, including model integration and lifecycle management
- Strengthen AI capability across the Sofia engineering organization
Qualifications
What you'll bring:
- Strong background in software engineering, particularly Java, backend systems, and distributed architectures
- Proven experience leading teams as a hands-on line manager
- Demonstrated success delivering scalable, production-grade systems in enterprise environments
- Experience building or integrating AI/ML or Generative AI solutions in production
- Ability to translate complex business challenges into robust technical solutions
- Solid experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and modern engineering ecosystems (CI/CD, containers)
- Understanding of AI system design, evaluation, and operational practices (e.g., LLMOps)
- Experience in regulated or data-intensive environments is a strong advantage
