SMX is seeking a Technology and/or Operational Military Utility Assessor to play a critical role in evaluating the potential effectiveness, suitability, and impact of emerging technologies, existing systems, and proposed operational concepts within the military context. This position involves rigorous analysis, experimentation, and assessment to determine the military value proposition of various technological solutions and operational approaches, ultimately informing strategic decision-making regarding acquisition, development, and implementation. The Assessor will work collaboratively with technical experts, operational personnel, and acquisition professionals to provide objective, data-driven operational insights and coordinated feedback.
Responsibilities:
Technology Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations of emerging and existing technologies, including but not limited to: artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cyber capabilities, advanced materials, communication systems, weapon systems and contested logistics.
- Analyze technical specifications, performance data, and potential limitations of technologies in relation to specific military requirements and operational environments.
- Develop and execute test and evaluation plans, including modeling and simulation, laboratory experiments, and field trials, to assess technology performance and maturity.
- Identify potential risks, capability employment strengths, and integration challenges associated with the adoption of new technologies.
- Stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and trends relevant to military applications.
Operational Utility Assessment:
- Evaluate military utility and combat valuation effectiveness of proposed operational concepts, tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).
- Analyze the impact of new technologies and systems on existing operational workflows and force structures.
- Develop and apply methodologies for assessing operational effectiveness, efficiency, and survivability.
- Conduct scenario-based tests, war games, and exercises to evaluate the potential impact of operational changes.
- Identify opportunities for operational innovation and improvement through the application of technology and modified procedures.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data from assessments, experiments, exercises and simulations.
- Develop clear, concise, and data-driven reports, briefings, and recommendations for senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Present findings and insights effectively to both technical and operational audiences.
- Document methodologies, assumptions, and limitations of assessment processes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, scientists, operational personnel, acquisition specialists, and other subject matter experts.
- Participate in working groups, technical interchange meetings, and program reviews.
- Communicate assessment findings and recommendations clearly and persuasively.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Methodology Development:
- Contribute to the development and refinement of assessment methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Research and implement best practices in technology and operational assessment.
- Ensure the rigor and objectivity of assessment activities.
Other duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of organizational objectives.
Requirements:
- Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
- BA/BS with 0-3yrs experience; or AA/AS and 4 years of experience; or HS/GED and 6 years of experience.

Desired:
- Experience instructing groups of various ranking personnel in a military environment.
- Experience with COTS autonomous and semi-autonomous UXS.
- Demonstrate experience in pre-deployment training and knowledge exchange supporting field training exercises (FTX), Validation Exercises (VALEX), and other technical exchange events.
- Must be able to obtain a Certified FAA UAS Pilot License/Part 107 License.
- Must be able to successfully complete CRC and deploy to CENTCOM theater.
- Must be able to obtain an Amateur Radio Technician License.
- Experience with all (land, air, and sea) Remote Piloted Vehicles (RPV) and ability to design/fabricate with limited instructions or pre-built kits.
- Ability to research emerging RPV technologies, describe their advantages, and the impact to DoD capabilities.
- Knowledge of the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP).
- Ability to take technical RPV knowledge and inform/instruct others about the technology, capabilities and limitations, and impacts to DoD capabilities.
- Proficient in utilizing standard MS Office computer applications and intelligence related automation to support analytical efforts and product development.
- Define and carry out scenarios (in test events or training events) in which RPV technology can be utilized and operationally assessed.
- Understanding and interpret customer requirements in order to influence correct development and use of the RPV technology at technical exchange/test events.
- Ability to perform independently while in other locations and interacting with other organizations and military units.
- Ability to communicate and function effectively in a team environment.
