Job Description

Job Title: Senior BIM Modeler – Electrical LV/ELV

AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Senior BIM Modeler specializing in Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) electrical systems. This role is the primary digital delivery contributor for LV/ELV content across multi-discipline building services projects — owning the federated electrical model, leading clash detection, enforcing BIM standards, and producing construction-ready deliverables.

The Senior BIM Modeler operates with a high degree of autonomy on all standard LV/ELV scopes, leads BIM workflow for junior modelers, drives improvements to team standards and content libraries, and acts as the primary BIM coordination contact with other disciplines and the CDE manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and deliver federated LV/ELV Revit MEP models across all project stages, including power distribution, containment routing (cable trays, conduit, ladders), lighting, small power, and ELV device placement (CCTV, access control, fire alarm, PA/VA, structured cabling, BMS field devices).
  • Manage parametric LV/ELV Revit families and content to agreed LOD/LOIN requirements, ensuring model elements carry correct shared parameters, classification codes, and asset data per the BIM Execution Plan and Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR).
  • Produce model-derived schedules and data exports — containment schedules, cable tray fill calculations, device counts, luminaire schedules, and equipment data sheets — ensuring consistency with engineering documentation.
  • Translate LV/ELV engineering design intent from single-line diagrams, mark-ups, and calculation outputs into accurate, coordinated 3D geometry and 2D documentation; escalate design conflicts to the responsible engineer promptly.
  • Enforce model quality and BIM compliance through regular health checks covering naming conventions, family parameter completeness, view templates, and workset discipline; document findings and drive corrective action.
  • Self-check all model outputs and drawing deliverables prior to engineer review for completeness, graphical accuracy, and compliance with applicable BIM standards and project protocols.
  • Review deliverables produced by junior LV/ELV BIM modelers, providing structured feedback and documenting outcomes in accordance with team QA procedures.
  • Coordinate LV/ELV model interfaces with other MEP and structural/architectural disciplines through formal clash detection; independently resolve routine spatial conflicts and escalate design-intent issues to the relevant engineer.
  • Maintain program awareness for assigned scopes; flag risks to model completion or coordination resolution proactively to the BIM lead or project manager.
  • Integrate engineering data from equipment data sheets, vendor drawings, and survey information into the LV/ELV model; flag inconsistencies to the responsible engineer.
  • Support tender packages by extracting model-derived quantities, device schedules, and equipment lists for inclusion in BoQ or specification annexes.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and practical BIM training to junior modellers on workflows, family creation, CDE procedures, and drawing production standards.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions, internal CPD events, and lessons-learned reviews; proactively identify and advocate for improvements to team BIM standards, templates, and family libraries.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical or building services engineering; or an HND/HNC with substantial demonstrable LV/ELV BIM modelling experience.
  • Extensive BIM modelling experience for building services electrical projects; advanced Revit MEP proficiency covering containment routing, device placement, family creation, and model-derived drawing and schedule production.
  • Thorough working knowledge of ISO 19650, BS EN 1192-2, LOD/LOIN frameworks, BIM Execution Plan requirements, and CDE classification and naming conventions.
  • Solid understanding of LV/ELV system design principles — power distribution topology, containment fill and segregation, cable routing constraints, and ELV system infrastructure — sufficient to validate model geometry against engineering intent without constant supervision.
  • Advanced Revit MEP proficiency (worksharing, worksets, view templates, sheet management, family editor); working AutoCAD proficiency for 2D referencing and mark-up.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously across concurrent modelling assignments and deliver against program without day-to-day supervision.
  • Experience providing task direction, workflow guidance, and quality review to junior BIM modelers on shared project scopes.

Preferred:

  • Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) in Revit MEP or equivalent vendor certification.
  • Proficiency in Navisworks Manage or Solibri for federated model clash detection.
  • Experience with Dynamo for Revit visual scripting.
  • In-depth ELV modelling experience: structured cabling infrastructure (IDF/MDF, patch panels), CCTV layouts, access control door sets, fire alarm loop cabling, and PA/VA speaker layouts within a coordinated Revit MEP environment.
  • Experience administering a CDE platform including model upload workflows, WIP-to-Shared progression, clash test configuration, and issue tracking.
  • Familiarity with IFC export workflows and open BIM data exchange for delivery to client asset management or FM platforms.
  • Data Center experience
