Job Description
The basic function of the Facilities Maintenance Technician is to perform planned and unplanned facilities maintenance while documenting all completed work. This is done with the objective of achieving a good working environment in the Plant and all related facility services. Comply with all electrical codes, safety, OSHA , USDA regulations on a daily basis. The Facilities Technician is responsible for the electrical, pneumatic, steam and all connections to the machine and equipment installations. Responsible for the planned maintenance on all facility equipment and facility machines, support equipment and plant utility equipment while maintaining compliance with all work orders requests, hygiene and sanitation rules.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties and responsibilities of the Facilities Technician shall consist of, but not be limited to, the following:
- Performs all maintenance work accurately and in a timely manner, verifies correct materials from the Maintenance Parts Inventory on any Facility equipment as needed to ensure all quality standards are met. Makes certain that all work is done in a safe manner.
- Reports to Managers and Supervisors immediately any issues regarding building and grounds deficiencies that may impact shift performance for proper course of action to be taken
- Reviews the operation of all equipment and line conditions constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems, plan future repairs and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Perform troubleshooting techniques, mechanically and electrically; through the use of machine manuals, equipment suppliers and any other resources necessary, to resolve with urgency; machine problems, quality issues and package performance issues.
- Carries out projects that improve efficiencies, reduce operating cost or improves equipment reliability with or without assistance.
- All Facility Support Equipment and Machines, lights, rest rooms, water systems, floors, walls, steam system, pneumatic system, all support equipment and machines and any duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
- Communicates regularly with all other maintenance personnel and as a group to ensure good two way communication concerning building maintenance issues in all areas of the building and grounds. And to ensure all building maintenance related issues are acted upon quickly and effectively.
- Observe, documents and offers suggestions for facility equipment modifications, changes and upgrades that improve plant environment.
- Ensures all plant systems are operating as required and within the specification limits for plant operations (air compressors, ammonia systems, HVAC, Boilers, MCC’s, etc.).
- Maintains a clean work area and follows all safety procedures (i.e. Lock-Out/Tag-Out, appropriate PPE, etc.) to maintain a safe working environment.
- Responsible for timely completion of assigned planned maintenance tasks as scheduled, including necessary documentation. Returns completed documentation to Maintenance Planner.
- Follows and adheres to all procedures, polices, and work rules including OSHA, Electrical Codes, USDA, and Jack Link’s regulations and procedures.
- Maintains communication with Maintenance Manager, co-workers as needed, to report any on-going safety and equipment issues.

- Is flexible to work hours beyond and/or outside regular schedule to ensure proper coverage for the position when needed.
- Performs and enforces work duties and responsibilities in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Is knowledgeable of all company rules, regulations, policies and procedures and complies with them at all times. Follows all departmental Standard Operating Procedures and reviews them regularly.
- Ensures that maintenance work areas and tool parts crib is kept in a neat and orderly manner.
- Ensure that cleanliness is followed by all employees who access the maintenance shop and tool parts crib.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience
- Required:
- Vocational/Tech diploma or equivalent working history in similar capacity
- Minimum three years of previous maintenance work experience in a manufacturing environment
- Preferred:
- Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in Construction Technology, Project Management, Facilities Engineering or related field plus 5 years’ work experience in a similar position; preferably in a food industry.

- Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Keep accurate records.
- Communicate with other people effectively.
- Must meet project deadlines without supervision.
- Must have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Physical, Mental, and Visual Skills:
- Good organizational skills; demonstrated ability to prioritize work load effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Practical problem solving skills.
- Ability to visually observe operations and distinguish colors.
- Ability to perform heavy physical work, exercising up to 50 pounds of strength frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work involves stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, and grasping.
- Ability to substantially move wrists, hands, and/or fingers for purpose of adjusting machine parts and computer operations.
- Must have the capacity to understand and use pertinent computer software programs that the company utilizes and are pertinent to maintenance and production operations.
Additional Information
The hiring range for this role is $21.81 - $31.71 Hourly. Actual wages will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to external market data, internal equity, location, and candidate skill set and experience. Base pay is just one component of Jack Link’s Total Rewards package for Team Members. Other rewards may include annual incentive and program-specific awards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is a plant / office setting with varying degrees of temperatures and noise levels. Exposure to manufacturing equipment movement and wet / slippery floors. Travel may be required.
