Job Description

We invite you to join the world of luxury hospitality at Fairmont Southampton as our new Mechanic. Reporting to the Director, Engineering & Facility Operations, the Mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the resort’s fleet of vehicles.

This role ensures all vehicles, including buses, vans, golf carts, and maintenance equipment, are maintained in optimal working condition to support daily resort operations. The position performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses mechanical issues, and ensures timely repairs while maintaining accurate service records and complying with safety standards.

What you will be doing:

Operations & Maintenance

  • Conduct daily inspections of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles, including cars, vans, buses, trucks, and golf carts (gas and electric).
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults and complete timely repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet operational and safety standards.
  • Carry out cleaning and upkeep of fleet vehicles and equipment as required.

Inventory & System Management

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair histories, and cost records for all fleet and equipment.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies.
  • Order parts and materials as needed to maintain operational readiness.
  • Identify trends in vehicle and equipment performance and recommend improvements.
  • Utilize maintenance systems and documentation processes to track repairs and scheduled servicing.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and company policies.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in the garage and workshop areas.
  • Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair requests, including after-hours support as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment are safe for use by staff and guests.
  • Participate in safety training and adhere to proper handling and operation of tools and machinery.

Guest & Team Support

  • Support resort operations by ensuring the availability and reliability of vehicles and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other departments to meet operational needs.
  • Provide timely response to service requests impacting guest experience.
  • Supervise and support contract workers or junior team members where required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support overall resort operations.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a mechanic, preferably in a hospitality, fleet, or golf course environment.
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing vehicles and equipment
  • Experience with diesel engines, electric vehicles, and small engine repair.
  • Previous supervisory experience is an asset.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Mechanical / Automotive Trade Certification required.

Competencies, Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of automotive, diesel, and small engine systems.
  • Familiarity with golf carts (electric and gas-powered)
  • Basic understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with computerized engine systems.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and proper equipment handling.

  • Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and mechanical environments.
