Job Description
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for servicing and repairing the specialized mechanical, electrical, and climate-control systems in CMI’s customer’s agricultural greenhouse located in Beltsville, MD.
Key Job Functions
- Inspect, repair, and calibrate automated environmental controls (heating, cooling, ventilation, humidity, and CO₂ scrubbers) to maintain precise growing conditions.
- Diagnose and fix malfunctions in commercial watering systems, injectors, pumps, and water filtration equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance on boilers, backup generators, heavy machinery (like tractors and forklifts), and motorized transport carts.
- Respond quickly to emergency equipment breakdowns, identify the root cause of mechanical or electrical failures, and execute repairs safely.
- Log all maintenance and repair activities, manage spare parts inventory, and order replacement components.
- Adhere to strict OSHA and facility safety guidelines, including hazardous material handling and equipment lockout/tagout procedures.
- Performs other maintenance mechanic related duties as required
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- At least 3 years of hands-on mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance experience (greenhouse or agricultural operations preferred)
- Must be skilled in general maintenance tasks related to building utilities and other facility utility systems
- Strong working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, plumbing, 3-phase electricity, and automated control software.
- Ability to work in environments with extreme temperatures, stand for long periods, and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Must be able to pass a government background check
