The Global Director - Healthcare Vertical will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive global strategy designed for healthcare-sector clients, including pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostics, and related life sciences customers. This role combines logistics expertise, regulatory understanding, solution design, and customer management to enhance operational performance, protect product integrity, and drive vertical market growth. Key Job Functions:
- Lead the development of a comprehensive vertical strategy aligned with current healthcare industry trends, customer requirements, and regulatory expectations
- Design and implement customized end-to-end supply chain solutions that support product integrity, visibility, traceability, and service reliability
- Serve as the knowledge management and subject matter expert to support key account teams and drive revenue growth across the healthcare sector
- Conduct training sessions and participate in industry events and conferences to strengthen vertical expertise and market visibility
- Work with marketing and communications teams to create compelling solution materials tailored to healthcare customers and use cases
- Oversee vertical reporting and align regional sales and account management execution with the global healthcare strategy
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and develop solutions that support compliant, scalable, and operationally executable healthcare services
- In collaboration with geography, product, and business development teams, support the development and growth of customers within the healthcare vertical. This is achieved through five main activities:
- Sales and account development
- Product, business development and geography development
- Marketing and customer events
- Training and knowledge build
- Leadership and direction of the regional vertical managers
Specific Job Functions:
Sales and Account Development
The global vertical leader is expected to be actively engaged as a subject matter expert in assisting the sales team in identifying and closing new business that is strategically important to the healthcare vertical. This is achieved through direct customer engagement as well as supporting the regional vertical managers, account managers, sales executives and geography leaders through the following activities:
Sales Calls and Account Development
- Direct customer engagement connected to large and strategically important healthcare opportunities
- Sponsoring the retention and development of strategically important healthcare accounts
Target Development
- Identifying and prioritizing healthcare industry segments based on addressable market size, strategic fit, and service capabilities
- Identifying and agreeing on strategically important targets with sales leaders and regional vertical managers
Video Calls
- Regular calls with sales owners and account managers on strategically important healthcare customers
RFIs / RFQs
- Collaborating and contributing with bid owners on large and strategically important opportunities
- Keeping Seismic up-to-date with relevant healthcare content to assist Sales and Account Management
- Answering specific questions related to quality, compliance, cold chain, visibility, and specialized service requirements when stock answers are not available
Product and Business Development
The global vertical leader is responsible for:
- Identifying and educating geography, product, business development and strategy leaders on healthcare industry trends, customer expectations, regulatory requirements, and cross-product service needs.
- Collaborating with geography, product, and business development leaders to build programs and services that address the unique needs of healthcare customers and position Expeditors as an execution and solutions leader in the industry.
- Supporting geography, product, and business development teams with the development and rollout of healthcare-specific operational procedures, quality controls, metrics, measurements, and training.
- Creating and delivering sales training to enable the network to sell Expeditors’ industry solutions effectively
- Understanding Expeditors’ competitive positioning in the healthcare market and developing strategies to be the acknowledged industry leader in selected areas of focus, including compliant, temperature-controlled, and high-visibility logistics solutions.
Each product and service development involves five broad steps:
- Identification, research of opportunity, and prioritization within vertical(s)
- Initial business requirements proposal – review and sign-off by geography/product/service leaders
- Write and publish a detailed business plan
- Undertake product development
- Got to market launch and roll-out
The global vertical leader is responsible for steering the product/geography development from identification to launch.
Marketing and Customer Events
The global vertical leader is expected to provide the network with content (educational) based marketing:
Sales Collateral
- Writing and publishing case studies and sales flyers that showcase healthcare programs, service capabilities, and customer outcomes
- Writing and publishing white papers on healthcare supply chain trends, regulatory considerations, and market developments
Expeditors’ Customer Events
- Proactively identify the need for and support healthcare-specific Global Logistics Conferences (GLCs), focus groups, seminars, and customer engagement forums
Industry Events
- Participating in trade shows, speaking opportunities, and industry forums relevant to healthcare and life sciences logistics
Social Media
- Post relevant articles and content consistent with Expeditors’ social media standards, internally and externally, to strengthen healthcare market awareness
Training and Knowledge Building
The global vertical leader is responsible for helping Expeditors’ geography, product, and business development teams effectively serve customers in the healthcare industry. In collaboration with the regional vertical managers, specific responsibilities include:
- Developing and delivering training linked to:
- Healthcare industry requirements, trends and regulatory responsibilities
- Healthcare-specific products, services, and solution capabilities
- Healthcare-specific operational standards, quality expectations, and procedures
- Healthcare-focused sales training for sales and account managers
- Promoting activity within the industry subject matter expert (SME) collaboration site
- Maintaining the industry vertical’s Insite pages with industry information, sales collateral, best practices, etc.
- Publishing monthly, and/or quarterly industry updates as appropriate
- Publishing quarterly executive updates
Leading and Supporting the Regional Vertical Managers
The global vertical leader is responsible for providing direction and support to the regional vertical manager with a view to ensuring:
- The vertical program is consistent across all geographies
- Regional Tactical Business Plans (TBPs) and target lists are aligned
- The regional vertical managers are executing their job responsibilities effectively
The global vertical leader should also support geography sales leaders in the recruitment of regional vertical managers.
Measurement of Success
The performance of the global vertical leader is assessed through their success at:
- Revenue growth of the vertical globally
- Supporting the development of new business and new logos with direct engagement with strategically important customers
- Working in concert with the geography, product and business development leaders in developing new products and services to support revenue growth in the industry vertical
- Supporting the growth and execution of our business across the healthcare vertical, including pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostics, and other regulated segments
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in logistics and freight forwarding, specifically within the healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, or life sciences sector, is required
- Demonstrated success in devising and implementing logistics strategies that improve performance within regulated healthcare supply chains
- Strong analytical skills and experience handling complex, high-value, and time- or temperature-sensitive solutions across healthcare segments
- Strong understanding of healthcare logistics requirements, including quality expectations, traceability, cold chain, and regulatory considerations
- Ability to communicate logistics solutions effectively to both executive stakeholders and operational teams
- Proven experience in leading diverse, cross-functional teams within a dynamic, global environment
- Proven track record of implementing continuous improvement initiatives that enhance compliance, performance, and customer experience
- Strong communication, effective project management, and sound decision-making capabilities

Reporting Structure: Senior Vice President, Global Sales & Marketing
Worksite Location: The position is located at the Company's Headquarters at 3545 Factoria Boulevard SE, Bellevue, WA.
Expected Salary: $90-100,000 (may be eligible for bonus)
