Role Overview

The Associate will work with the Managing Director and New Ventures team to identify and evaluate opportunities for company creation. The Associate will be responsible for developing investment theses for drug acquisition targets within a given therapeutic area.

This position is full-time and reports to the Managing Director, New Ventures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and maintain a pipeline of novel drug development ideas for NewCos within given therapeutic area(s)
  • Conduct proprietary research to analyze assets across science, disease, commercial, IP, CMC, clin dev, regulatory, and valuation verticals.
  • Write, pitch, and maintain investment notes for company ideas
  • Build pitch deck including recommended deal terms, clinical development, and financing
  • Develop expertise within therapeutic area(s) of coverage
  • Attend all relevant medical, banking and partnering conferences
  • Convert ideas into NewCos with successful PnL

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Advanced degree (MD or PhD) strongly preferred. All applicants MUST have a degree in and a strong understanding of biological sciences.
  • 5+ years of experience focused on the biotech/pharmaceutical sector, buy-side role preferred
    • Also open to MD/PhDs with <5 years of experience who are looking to make a career switch
  • Ability to operate independently on both strategic and tactical tasks, and clearly articulate the process involved
  • Investor mindset, deep experience with producing research notes
  • Relevant academic or industry experience in the life sciences is preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated tenacity in conducting detailed research and presenting findings
  • New York based with willingness to travel (15%)

The total compensation for this role includes a base salary, competitive bonus structure, and comprehensive benefits. The target annual cash compensation range is $305,000 to $335,000, though will be determined by a variety of factors including prior experience, relevant expertise, and the scope of responsibilities assigned.
