This role sits within our School Support / Enhancing Mental Health Support in Schools (EMHSS) program, where clinicians work collaboratively with schools to provide early intervention, mental health support, and holistic care. Based at headspace Knox, you’ll work closely with school communities to ensure young people have access to the right support, at the right time.
Your role, your impact
In this role, you’ll play a key part in improving the mental health and wellbeing outcomes of young people by providing evidence-based support in both clinical and school settings.
You will:
- Provide early intervention mental health support to young people aged 12–18 in school environments
- Conduct intake assessments, mental state examinations and comprehensive risk assessments, developing tailored formulations to guide care planning
- Deliver individual and short-term therapeutic interventions aligned to young people’s needs
- Manage a caseload from initial assessment through to referral and engagement with ongoing supports
- Act as a key point of contact for local secondary schools, supporting referrals and partnerships
- Collaborate with teachers, wellbeing staff, families and multidisciplinary teams to build coordinated care approaches
- Coordinate referrals and continuity of care across headspace and external services
- Promote help-seeking and mental health literacy within school communities

About you
You’re an experienced clinician who is passionate about youth mental health and confident working within school environments.
You have:
- Tertiary qualification/s in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Nursing or Mental Health Occupational Therapy
- Current registration with AHPRA or AASW (or eligibility for membership)
- Experience supporting young people aged 12–18, with strong skills in assessment, formulation and short-term intervention
- The ability to build genuine, trusting relationships with young people, families, and school staff
- Confidence working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, with clear communication and strong documentation skills
You’re also well organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities across different sites while maintaining a high standard of care.

- Experience working within schools or education settings
- Knowledge of early intervention or youth mental health frameworks (e.g. headspace model)
- Confidence delivering psychoeducation and group work
- Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practice
