Job Description
Reporting to the Regional Director, the Outside Sales Representative will work closely with the management team and will be responsible for purchasing scrap metal (from dealerships/intercompany sources). The incumbent will also be responsible for developing and maintaining exceptional business relationships with both new and existing clients. This role requires a dynamic, self-driven individual capable of collaborating effectively with all company staff and departments, as well as with customers and suppliers.
What you'll be responsible for:
- Purchasing scrap metal to ensure tonnage targets are met or exceeded while optimizing profit margins;
- Visiting dealerships and industrial suppliers, by phone or in person, to generate new and repeat business, provide pricing, deliver customer service, respond to inquiries, handle complaints, and build strong relationships;
- Prospecting new customers by visiting individuals and small businesses (door-to-door);
- Developing reliable networks of contacts to obtain up-to-date information on buy/sell pricing and local and regional market trends;
- Negotiating new contracts with clients;
- Performing P&L analysis;
- Leveraging knowledge of yard operations and processing to make informed pricing decisions;
- Coordinating with administrative staff and the commercial team to ensure accurate and timely documentation of all purchase transactions;
- Providing feedback and recommendations on scrap purchase pricing for AIM-operated sites;
- Completing special projects as assigned;
- Coaching and supporting team members;
- 80% field-based, 20% office-based;
- Performing any other related duties as required.
Qualifications
To join our team:
- You have a College diploma in Business, Sales, or Marketing (or any equivalent education or experience);
- You have 1+ year of experience in the recycling industry, ferrous and non-ferrous metals (an asset);
- You have a Valid Class 5 driver’s license;
- You offer strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills;
- You have excellent math, problem-solving, and negotiation skills;
- You have some knowledge of metal alloy identification (an asset);
- You have good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- You are willing and able to travel across the assigned territory;
- You are familiar with CRM systems (an asset);
- You are bilingual (French/English) (major asset for the Quebec region);
- You demonstrate leadership abilities;
- You have excellent communication skills;
- You are Team-oriented with strong collaboration skills;
- You have a strong ability to analyze results;
- You are able to set and manage priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment;
- You have a solid understanding of organizational management.
