Shopify Developer

This role is open to candidates based in LATAM, Africa, and Eastern Europe. Please note that as this role supports U.S.-based clients, candidates must be available to work during U.S. business hours aligned with the client’s time zone.

Operating on Shopify Plus, they are committed to enhancing site functionality, improving conversion rates, and creating seamless user experiences across multiple customer touchpoints. As the business continues to scale, they are seeking a highly experienced Shopify Developer to serve as a key technical partner, helping drive platform improvements, integrations, and long-term eCommerce growth.

Role Overview

The Shopify Developer will serve as the primary in-house technical resource responsible for maintaining, customizing, and extending the company’s Shopify Plus environment. The Shopify Developer will work closely with the eCommerce Product Manager and an external development agency to implement new functionality, improve site performance, manage critical integrations, and ensure a high-quality user experience. This role is ideal for a highly independent developer who can translate business requirements into production-ready solutions, proactively identify improvements, and operate with minimal oversight while maintaining strong technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Shopify Development & Customization

• Maintain, customize, and extend the company’s custom Shopify Plus theme.

• Develop and implement new features, sections, and template customizations based on business requirements.

• Build scalable and maintainable solutions within the Shopify ecosystem.

• Support ongoing enhancement of the customer shopping experience through technical improvements.

• Ensure code quality, stability, and long-term maintainability.
  

Frontend Development & UX Implementation

• Collaborate with the eCommerce Product Manager to translate rough UX concepts into polished, production-ready frontend experiences.

• Implement responsive and user-friendly frontend functionality using Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

• Provide technical recommendations that improve usability, functionality, and customer experience.

• Identify opportunities to improve frontend design implementation and user flows.

• Deliver high-quality frontend experiences without relying on pixel-perfect design specifications.
  

Integrations & Platform Management

• Manage and maintain integrations with third-party platforms including Braintree, Attentive, NetSuite, and Celigo.

• Develop and support custom app integrations and API-driven functionality.

• Work with Shopify Admin APIs and Storefront APIs to extend platform capabilities.

• Ensure reliable data flow and functionality across integrated systems.

• Troubleshoot and resolve integration-related issues.
  

Performance Optimization & Quality Assurance

• Audit and improve site speed, theme architecture, and asset management.

• Conduct performance reviews and provide actionable recommendations.

• Optimize Core Web Vitals and overall site performance.

• Independently test and validate functionality across devices and browsers prior to release.

• Maintain high standards for quality assurance without dedicated QA support.
  

Technical Collaboration & Project Execution

• Collaborate with an external development agency within a shared codebase environment.

• Participate in Git-based version control workflows and code management practices.

• Use Jira or similar project management tools to manage tasks and project progress.

• Communicate project status, blockers, risks, and timelines proactively.

• Provide technical feedback on requirements and identify potential implementation risks early.
  

Qualifications Experience

• Extensive experience developing and maintaining Shopify Plus environments.

• Deep experience building and supporting heavily customized Shopify themes.

• Experience implementing custom app integrations and API-driven functionality.

• Experience working with Shopify Admin APIs and Storefront APIs.

• Experience optimizing site speed, theme architecture, and frontend performance.

• Experience working within shared codebases and collaborating with external development teams.

• Experience using Git-based version control workflows.

• Experience independently managing testing and quality assurance activities.

• Experience using Jira or similar project management platforms.

• Experience working with third-party integrations such as Braintree, NetSuite, Celigo, Attentive, or similar systems preferred.
  

Qualifications Skills

• Highly proficient in Shopify Plus development.

• Strong proficiency in Liquid, HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript.

• Strong frontend and backend development capabilities within Shopify environments.

• Ability to translate rough UX direction into polished production-ready implementations.

• Strong understanding of frontend design principles and usability best practices.

• Expertise in site speed optimization, Core Web Vitals, theme architecture, and asset management.

• Strong API integration and systems integration capabilities.

• Proficiency with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows.

• Ability to accurately scope work, identify risks, and proactively manage technical challenges.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to code quality.

• Self-directed and capable of operating independently with minimal oversight.

• Strong ownership mentality and proactive problem-solving approach.
