Job Description
The Head of Global Logistics is responsible for developing and executing the organization’s global customer service, planning, material control and logistics strategy to ensure efficient, cost-effective movement of goods across international and domestic markets. This role oversees end-to-end planning, material control, operations, including transportation, warehousing, distribution, and trade compliance, while driving continuous improvement and supporting business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement a global fulfillment strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
- Lead network design and optimization across global distribution centers and transportation routes.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve service levels, and enhance supply chain resilience.
- Establish long-term partnerships with fulfillment service providers and carriers.
- Manage and Lead Customer Service team.
Operations Management
- Oversee daily global fulfillment operations, including planning, material control, inventory, inbound and outbound transportation, warehousing, and distribution.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Manage third-party logistics providers (3PLs), freight forwarders, and customs brokers.
- Monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time delivery, freight cost, inventory accuracy and inventory reductions.
Global Trade & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs laws, and import/export requirements.
- Manage risk related to tariffs, duties, and geopolitical factors.
- Oversee documentation and regulatory adherence across all regions.
Financial & Budget Management
- Develop and manage the global fulfillment budget.
- Drive cost savings initiatives through carrier negotiations, route optimization, and process improvements.
- Analyze fulfillment spend and identify opportunities for efficiency.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Lead optimization of logistics technologies (TMS, WMS, ERP integrations).
- Use data analytics to improve visibility, forecasting, driving actions and decision-making.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean and Six Sigma.
Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing global fulfillment team.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance management.
- Foster collaboration across regions and cross-functional teams (supply chain, procurement, finance, sales).
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate with internal departments to align fulfillment capabilities with customer demand.
- Partner with suppliers and customers to ensure seamless global operations.
- Communicate fulfillment performance and strategic initiatives to executive leadership.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or related field.
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- 10–15+ years of experience in logistics or supply chain management.
- 5+ years in a leadership or director-level role with global scope.
- Experience managing international logistics operations, including multi-region distribution networks.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Deep knowledge of global transportation, warehousing, and trade compliance.
- Financial acumen and budget management experience.
- Excellent leadership and team development skills.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
- Proficiency in logistics systems (TMS, WMS, ERP).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, global, cross-cultural environment.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- On-time delivery performance.
- Order backlog management.
- Freight cost as a percentage of sales.
- Cash Conversion Cycle specifically DIO, DPO and DSO reflecting actual position.
- Fulfillment cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Supplier and carrier performance metrics.
- Customer satisfaction related to delivery.
Work Environment
- Global role requiring collaboration across multiple time zones.
- Travel may be required (10–30%).
- Hybrid or office-based depending on company structure.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to: VP of Supply Chain / Chief Operations Officer.
- Direct Reports: Regional Logistics Managers, Transportation Managers, Warehouse Leaders, Customer Service Leaders, Planning Leaders.
Additional Information
The U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000-210,000 annually. Within the range, individual pay is determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to, work experience and job knowledge, complexity of the role, job location, etc.
