Job Description
Working with the research director for Service Provider Strategy, you will drive Omdia’s research in strategic technology choices and market developments with global remit.
You will produce written research interacting with vendors and service providers to deliver market defining thought leadership, qualitative (technology and market evolution; vendor strategies; regional perspectives; customer insight) and quantitative research (market share, forecasts) as part of the Service Provider Strategy services.
You will develop Omdia’s coverage on strategy issues including the evolution of Service Providers and Vendors i.e. telecom infrastructure strategies, strategies beyond connectivity, the evolution of vendor ecosystems, and macro-topics such as global-regional supply chain interaction. Support sales through developing thought-provoking, on-time, quality research.
Drive industry thought leadership and Omdia brand awareness through third-party conference speaking engagements and press/media interaction, whether Informa-owned (Lightreading.com; telecoms.com) or third-party.
Main Areas of Responsibility & Accountability
- Writing – Providing qualitative analysis to key audiences with a focus on transformation and development; discuss the impact of technology and key market trends which are shaping telecom access techs and onward services.
- Thought leadership – Produce written insights and press material to support research outputs; present at industry events and webinars and use Informa Tech assets as a platform to build your brand and industry reputation.
- Research planning – play an active and continuous role in shaping the nature of our research in broadband techs and services, proposing new research topics and representing these to prospects and customers.
- Sales support – Partner with the sales team to generate new leads, progress existing leads, and support renewals; use scoping to continually evolve the research offering.
- Speaking – Present research findings at industry events and conferences (in person and through digital media)
- Building base data – Use primary and secondary research to build credible base data; ensure sufficient coverage of market players; create estimates where company reporting not available; utilise history; ensure consistency with related data/markets; log all assumptions and work in a clear way
- Client face-to-face support – Partner with the commercial team to further Omdia’s position in the space, to strengthen Omdia’s relationship with existing and new customers, gather customer feedback and develop new research propositions based on intelligence gathered from customers.
- Forecasting – qualitative and quantitative input in forecasting, end-to-end execution.
Qualifications
- Telecom Industry Analyst: Proven experience as an analyst in the telecommunications sector with deep knowledge of operator business models, strategies, and market dynamics. Must have both telco expertise and analyst experience.
- Financial & Data Analysis: Strong financial analysis skills including CapEx/OpEx analysis, investment cycles, and financial statement interpretation. Advanced Excel proficiency with ability to transform complex datasets into actionable insights.
- Senior Executive Engagement: Track record of presenting to and engaging with C-suite executives (CEO-1, CEO-2 level) at large telecom organizations, including strategy teams and senior decision-makers.
- Research & Thought Leadership: Experience producing subscription-based research (long-form reports and reactive content) with ability to set research agendas autonomously. Track record of 3-4+ conference speaking engagements per year.
- Network Economics Expertise: Deep understanding of service provider network economics, including operator investment patterns, spending strategies, and operational efficiency drivers.
