About the Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time CMM Programmer I to join our quality team — someone with experience programming CMM equipment using PC-DMIS and/or Calypso, working from a variety of data sources including model-based definitions, CAD/CAM files, drawings, and blueprints, and who can operate CMM equipment, perform inspections using surface plate layout methods, and use standard measuring equipment to verify precision aerospace components. In this role, you'll work primarily with Zeiss CMMs and Zeiss Calypso software — programming, setting up, troubleshooting, and operating coordinate measuring machines and related inspection equipment — with the support of experienced team members who are invested in your development.

What You'll Do

  • Develop foundational programming skills in Zeiss Calypso, creating and executing inspection programs for machined and 3D-printed components against drawings, CAD models, and dimensional specifications.

  • Verify program integrity through first-article runs before programs are released for production use.

  • Execute inspection plans using CMMs, 3D scanners, optical measuring devices, and hand metrology tools — including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges — following established procedures and escalating issues that exceed your current experience level.

  • Set up CMMs and associated fixturing per documented procedures, verify probe qualification, and confirm program readiness before execution — building the habits and knowledge that underpin reliable, repeatable inspection.

  • Assist senior team members with dimensional inspection using FARO metrology arms and laser scanning equipment, building your familiarity with hardware and software in a supported environment.

  • Read engineering drawings and interpret basic GD&T callouts to confirm parts meet dimensional and geometric requirements — asking questions when requirements are unclear and applying feedback directly to your work.

  • Produce detailed, accurate inspection documentation in ProShop ERP — including program references, measurement results, and non-conformance records — ensuring every record is complete and clear before it leaves your hands.

  • Identify patterns in inspection results, recognize when anomalies warrant escalation, and contribute observations that support the team's ongoing improvement efforts.

  • Contribute to shop floor support activities as needed — including post-processing of additively manufactured parts, mechanical assembly, and driving components to and from outside processing vendors.

  • Support other projects and assignments as needed.

What We’re Looking For

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma with at least 4 years of relevant experience; or an associate's degree in Manufacturing, Machining Technology, CNC Programming, or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience

  • Relevant experience includes dimensional inspection, metrology, or a manufacturing quality role with hands-on exposure to inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and/or CMM equipment

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and basic GD&T is required

  • Exposure to Zeiss CMMs and Zeiss Calypso — or a comparable CMM platform — is a plus

Skills & Strengths

  • Foundational understanding of dimensional inspection principles and how metrology supports manufacturing quality

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, including fundamental GD&T symbols, feature control frames, and tolerances

  • Strong attention to detail with a consistent record of producing accurate, complete documentation and programs

  • Developing troubleshooting skills — able to identify simple program or setup issues and escalate more complex problems appropriately

  • Reliable and accountable; manages assigned tasks with accuracy and adherence to deadlines

  • Effective communicator; works well with machinists, engineers, and quality personnel

  • Genuinely committed to continuous learning and personal technical development

Physical Requirements

This role is based in our machine shop and metrology lab and involves an active, physical work environment:

  • Regular computer work for extended periods for CMM programming, ERP documentation, and technical communication

  • Regular standing, walking, and movement throughout the manufacturing facility and metrology lab during inspection setup and floor support activities

  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to inspect components, fixtures, and metrology equipment at machine and floor level

  • Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, fixturing, and components up to 50 lbs; team lifts required for heavier loads

  • Manual dexterity required for operating CMM equipment, hand tools, and precision metrology instruments; may perform repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and fingers

  • Visual acuity required to read technical drawings and GD&T callouts, inspect component surfaces, and work with precision measurement tools

  • PPE is required at all times on the shop floor, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear

Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role.
