Position Summary

The Managing Director is the senior operational and strategic leader of American Skin Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This position will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s administration, programs, strategic initiatives, financial management, fundraising, marketing, technology integration, and community engagement. This position reports directly to and works closely with the President while also collaborating with the Board Chair and Board of Directors. This is a New York–based position with an immediate start date. The Managing Director will lead the organization in advancing its mission, strengthening organizational sustainability, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and manage the organization in alignment with its mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to develop and implement long-term strategic plans and organizational goals.
  • Ensure effective execution of programs and initiatives that advance the organization’s impact.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador and spokesperson for the organization within the community and with external partners.

Board Relations & Governance

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to support effective governance and informed decision-making.
  • Provide regular updates, reports, and recommendations regarding organizational performance, finances, and strategic opportunities.
  • Support Board and committee meetings, including agenda development and implementation of Board directives.

Financial Management & Fundraising

  • Oversee the financial health and sustainability of the organization.
  • Develop and manage the annual operating budget and provide regular financial reporting to the Board.
  • Ensure sound fiscal management practices, compliance, and efficient use of organizational resources.
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant development, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
  • Identify and develop new revenue opportunities to support organizational growth and impact.

Operations & Team Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations, administration, and organizational systems.
  • Recruit, supervise, develop, and retain a high-performing and mission-driven staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accountable organization.
  • Establish and maintain organizational policies, procedures, and operational best practices.
  • Review and approve contracts, agreements, and other organizational commitments.

Community Engagement & Communications

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, community leaders, partner organizations, volunteers, and stakeholders.
  • Oversee marketing, communications, and public relations efforts to enhance the organization’s visibility and impact.
  • Represent the organization in public forums, events, and media opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of senior leadership or nonprofit management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with a Board of Directors.
  • Proven success in strategic planning, organizational leadership, and operational management.
  • Strong fundraising and donor engagement experience with a track record of developing sustainable revenue streams.
  • Excellent financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and public speaking skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • High integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
