Position Summary
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and proactive Insurance Benefits & Eligibility Verification & Authorization Specialist. The ideal candidate can follow directions accurately and consistently prioritize calling insurance providers rather than relying solely on online portals.
This role focuses on front-end medical billing processes, specifically insurance benefits verification, eligibility checks, and submission of authorization requests. The ideal candidate has relevant medical experience, strong attention to detail, a high standard for accuracy, and is comfortable handling insurance-related phone calls regularly.
Key Responsibilities
- Insurance Verification (Phone-Based Required):
- Contact insurance providers to verify coverage, benefits, and requirements
- Perform phone verification especially for all first-time patient visits (portal-only verification is not sufficient)
- Document all verification details, including representative name and reference number
- Follow required verification procedures without exception
- Prior Authorization Management:
- Initiate, submit, and follow up on prior authorization requests
- Track authorization status and ensure timely updates
- Maintain accurate documentation of approvals and pending requests
- Process Compliance & Data Handling
- Follow established verification workflows and protocols
- Retrieve missing or incomplete information from patient charts when needed
- Maintain and update tracking spreadsheets for verifications and authorizations
Requirements
- Atleast 2 years of direct experience handling Benefits & Eligibility verification for U.S. healthcare providers
- Strong experience in insurance verification and prior authorizations, preferably in PT/OT/Speech Therapy is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail and willingness to follow specific protocols
- Comfortable making frequent insurance calls
- Proficient in Google Sheets or Excel
- Experience in medical billing or revenue cycle management is highly valued
- Background in Physical Therapy or Orthopedics is a plus
- Familiarity with Prompt (EMR) is a plus
Basic requirements
- Must be proficient in speaking and writing English very clearly
- Must have relevant work experience
- Be able to submit an NBI clearance and/or Local Police Clearance background check before onboarding [mandatory]
- Must be available for video meetings with your camera on (when needed)
