The Azure Cloud Engineer will join our growing South Africa team and be responsible for supporting, maintaining and improving Interpath’s Microsoft Azure environment as part of the wider IT Infrastructure team. Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, the role focuses on the administration, optimisation and support of Azure services, ensuring the platform remains secure, stable and aligned with business needs. The successful candidate will support both operational activities and project delivery, helping to resolve technical issues, implement changes and deploy new cloud services.

Working closely with the Head of Infrastructure, the Azure Cloud Engineer will help maintain best practice configurations, support security and compliance requirements, and contribute to continuous improvement across the cloud environment. The role requires strong hands-on Azure experience, excellent troubleshooting skills and the ability to deliver secure, scalable and resilient cloud solutions. As part of a globally distributed IT function, the role also requires flexibility to collaborate across regions and time zones to support project delivery and operational requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Provide advanced support for Interpath’s Azure environment, resolving complex incidents across compute, networking, identity and platform services.
• Support the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of secure, scalable Azure-based solutions.
• Maintain and support Azure integration with Microsoft 365 services, including Entra ID, Intune, Microsoft Defender and Purview.
• Manage backup, recovery and disaster recovery solutions to ensure business continuity and platform resilience.
• Administer identity and access management within Entra ID, including access controls, conditional access and identity governance.
• Implement and maintain Azure security, monitoring and performance optimisation processes, ensuring compliance with organisational standards.
• Support cost management and optimisation initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary cloud spend.
• Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, maintaining documentation, sharing knowledge and contributing to the continuous improvement of Interpath’s cloud environment.

Requirements

• Proven experience supporting and administering Microsoft Azure environments.
• Strong knowledge of Azure services, including compute, networking, Entra ID, storage, backup and disaster recovery.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across cloud infrastructure and services.
• Experience using PowerShell to automate tasks, deployments and operational processes.
• Good understanding of cloud security principles, identity management and access controls.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable

• Experience with advanced Azure services, including App Services, Azure Functions, AKS or containerised workloads.
• Exposure to Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools such as Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• Experience with Azure monitoring and observability tools, including Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
• Exposure to Microsoft 365 technologies, including Intune, Microsoft Defender and Purview.
• Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications, such as Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect.
