Role Overview
As an Architect, you are expected to have a strong track record in one or, preferably, multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will ideally be a registered Architect with experience of and possibly managing small packages on a range of projects.
You’ll be part of an enthusiastic and committed team of Architects and Technicians to deliver high quality output on projects. You’ll possess high levels of creativity, vision and imagination to produce distinctive architectural solutions and have a good knowledge of producing technical details and specifications.
Key Purpose
- Design and specify all aspects of Architecture in accordance with current guidelines, standards, regulations and project deliverables
- Assist in the coordination, and functional authority for planning, organisation, control, integration, and completion of assigned projects.
- Contribute to the development and mentoring of our Early Careers population and the continuous improvement of departmental capabilities
- Champion sustainability, quality and compliance controls within local teams and projects
Responsibilities
- Provide architectural design services and consultancy work on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
- Produce design deliverables (including drawings, specifications and reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing and ensure progress against the project brief
- Check calculations and production of detailed drawings to ensure architectural designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
- Ensure projects undergo Design and technical reviews.
- Collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary members of the design team to deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions.
- Contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work and change controls for small to medium projects.
- Interact with various internal and external contacts and take responsibility for the delivery of projects within time, quality and budget constraints.
- Liaise with other team members in a multi-disciplinary environment to achieve holistic building solutions to client brief in a lead capacity.
Accountability
- Work to own initiative and required to supervise team members including Technicians, Graduates and trainees. Supporting professional development accordingly.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Architect (ARB), with a minimum of two years post Part 3 qualification experience.
- Some experience of delivering projects in at least one sector that BakerHicks operates in.
- Confident communication and presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
- An ability to develop relationships with both internal and external stakeholders that deliver long term benefits.
- Considerable design, technical detailing and specification writing experience.
- Excellent design and technical detailing ability and competent drafting skills using Revit.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable
- Experience of contributing to bids, proposals and tender specifications.
- Understanding of commercial elements of projects.
- Experience of working projects across all RIBA stages
- Experience of developing specifications in NBS Chorus.
- Experience of PAS 1192 / ISO19650 BIM delivery, including COBie data.

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
In some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.
