Job Summary:
The Nuclear Engineer I, Core Design supports the design, development, and safety analysis of Deep Fission's deep borehole pressurized water reactor. This role performs calculations and analyses in support of core design, shielding design, reactivity and criticality control, and nuclear and radiological safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute design, analysis, or evaluation activities using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program/project requirements.
- Perform work in accordance with design control procedures, ensuring thorough documentation of work, facilitation of internal and external design reviews, and control of product design configuration data.
- Influence and support the development of strategy, methodology, and technical tools for the area of responsibility.
- Interpret internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, tools, or services.
- Use judgment to support decision making and the handling of complex tasks or problems in areas of operations, product management, technology, or engineering.
- Work within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited university or college.
- 3-5 years of engineering experience.
- Possess working-level knowledge or technical experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Reactor core design and analysis.
- Radiation shielding design and analysis.
- Nuclear fuel analysis and qualification.
- Criticality safety.
- Reactor multi-physics analysis, especially pertaining to transient analysis.
- Nuclear analysis software development, verification, and validation.
- Other areas of nuclear engineering or nuclear physics relevant to the design and analysis of light-water reactors, small modular reactors, microreactors, and other nuclear facilities.
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Experience with reactor physics codes and methods (MCNP, SCALE, PARCS).
- Experience with NQA-1 in a nuclear environment.
