Job Description and Responsibilities
This is a full-time, on-site role as a Significant Needs Special Education Teacher serving a school located in Englewood, CO.
The Significant Needs (AN) Special Education Teacher (SPED) will be responsible for designing and delivering individualized instruction for students facing complex cognitive, physical, or behavioral challenges. Your primary focus will be creating an empowering, highly structured environment that fosters independence, drives academic progress, and ensures meaningful inclusion within the broader school culture. By utilizing modern assistive technologies and collaborative teaching models, you will help students achieve their unique potential and thrive.

Responsibilities
- Instructional Leadership & Logistics: Build a comprehensive daily routine that balances adapted academic subjects with essential life skills, community engagement, and social development. Seamlessly align and coordinate schedules for students, multi-disciplinary specialists, and support staff.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Plan and execute direct, modified instruction tied to state standards, ensuring lessons are accessible and engaging for students requiring modified curricula.
- Team Collaboration: Partner directly with general education teachers through joint planning and co-teaching to maximize inclusive classroom opportunities.
- Paraprofessional Guidance: Oversee and guide classroom paraprofessionals, directing their daily efforts to provide effective small-group instruction and individualized student interventions.
- Community Integration: Accompany and support students during school-wide events and neighborhood outings, promoting accessible participation for all developmental levels.
- IEP Development: Manage the complete Individualized Education Program (IEP) lifecycle, including authoring comprehensive plans, evaluating functional or academic skills, and tracking progress.
- Meeting Facilitation: Convene and lead collaborative IEP meetings with families, administrators, and specialists to ensure unified student support.
- Behavioral Support: Facilitate Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and implement targeted Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) as necessary to promote positive classroom behavior.
- State Testing: Oversee and administer the Colorado Alternative Assessment (CoALT) for eligible students in compliance with state regulations.
Requirements
- Teaching Certification, Bachelors or Masters Degree or higher in Special Education
- State License as SPED teacher
- 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
- Experience working with children
- Organizational and time management skills
- Proficient in use of technology
- Fingerprint background clearance
- Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications
Physical Requirements
Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
