Overview

The Account Executive (Commercial Insurance) is responsible for managing and growing a book of commercial insurance clients while also actively producing new business. This role combines client relationship management, strategic risk advisory, and sales production. The ideal candidate is a consultative insurance professional who can retain and expand existing accounts, develop new client relationships, and deliver tailored insurance and risk management solutions to businesses across a variety of industries.

Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned commercial insurance clients.

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with business owners, executives, CFOs, risk managers, and other key decision-makers.

  • Understand each client’s business operations, risk exposures, insurance needs, and long-term objectives.

  • Provide proactive insurance guidance, coverage recommendations, and risk management strategies.

  • Lead renewal strategy meetings, stewardship reviews, and client service discussions.

  • Coordinate with internal service teams to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality client support.

  • Address client questions, coverage concerns, claims issues, and policy service needs in a professional and timely manner.

New Business Production

  • Prospect for new business through referrals, networking, centers of influence, industry events, targeted outreach, and cross-selling opportunities.

  • Identify and qualify prospective clients based on business needs, revenue potential, risk profile, and fit with agency capabilities.

  • Conduct discovery meetings to assess prospects’ current insurance programs, exposures, and pain points.

  • Prepare and present insurance proposals, coverage recommendations, and risk management solutions.

  • Negotiate terms with carriers and work with marketing teams to secure competitive insurance programs.

Account Growth and Retention

  • Retain and grow an assigned book of commercial insurance business.

  • Identify opportunities to round out accounts by offering additional lines of coverage, including property, casualty, workers’ compensation, management liability, cyber liability, professional liability, surety, employee benefits, or personal lines where appropriate.

  • Monitor account profitability, renewal timelines, service issues, and client satisfaction.

  • Collaborate with account managers, placement specialists, claims advocates, and risk control resources to deliver a coordinated client experience.

  • Maintain strong knowledge of carrier appetites, market trends, underwriting requirements, and coverage developments.

Insurance Program Strategy

  • Review policies, endorsements, limits, exclusions, loss runs, contracts, and exposure data to identify coverage gaps or improvement opportunities.

  • Assist clients with risk transfer issues, certificate requirements, contractual insurance obligations, and claims trends.

  • Develop tailored insurance solutions based on each client’s industry, operations, risk tolerance, and budget.

  • Communicate complex insurance concepts clearly and effectively to clients and prospects.

Compliance and Administration

  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, sales activity, renewal strategies, proposals, and service requests in the agency management system or CRM.

  • Ensure compliance with agency procedures, carrier requirements, licensing standards, and applicable insurance regulations.

  • Follow established workflows for marketing, renewal preparation, proposal delivery, policy review, and client communication.

  • Maintain required state insurance licenses and complete continuing education requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) Required. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field preferred.

  • Commercial Insurance Expertise. Strong knowledge of commercial insurance products, coverage analysis, underwriting, and risk management solutions across multiple industries.

  • Client Relationship Management. Proven ability to build, manage, and retain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted advisor to business leaders and decision-makers.

  • Business Development & Sales Skills. Demonstrated success in prospecting, generating new business, expanding existing accounts, and driving revenue growth.

  • Strategic Communication & Analytical Skills. Strong consultative, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to assess client risks and present tailored insurance solutions clearly and effectively.

  • Property and Casualty Licenses for the State of Kansas
