Job Description

ROLE OVERVIEW 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Data & Assessment, the Director of People Analytics (DPA) is responsible for supporting an effective data-driven culture at KIPP Philadelphia through the management of the region’s various Talent platforms, including its HRIS (UKG), and all associated Talent data. The Director of People Analytics is responsible for ensuring sound data collection and storage, producing reports and visualizations aligned to stakeholder needs, and implementing systems to produce data-driven resources.  To do this, the DPA will work closely with the Data team, Operations team, Talent team, and other key organizational stakeholders to assess regional needs and build a suite of data tools that empower school and regional staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management

  • Serve as a member of the Data Team, Talent Team & larger Operations Team to support strategic planning and collaboration in the support of schools.
  • Lead change management around core Talent systems (e.g., UKG), including process design and optimization
  • Position people analytics as a trusted input into workforce planning.
  • Management of overall People Analytics, including TNTP and other People data systems

Data & System Management

  • Serve as UKG system administrator and in-house UKG expert for all system functionality, including ATS, Benefits, HR/HCM, Payroll, Performance Management, Self-Service, & Time and Attendance.
  • Oversee the Change Control Committee that reviews and implements changes to UKG, including new UKG modules/functionality.
  • Integrate essential Talent data with KIPP Philadelphia’s Google BigQuery data warehouse and leverage the data warehouse when possible in reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with our Data team, contracted Tech Support team, and vendors to ensure working connections between systems.
  • Manage the process of auditing information, correcting errors, and upskilling users to prevent future errors.
  • Establish and document the policies, practices, protocols, and systems to ensure consistent and accurate data practices.

Reporting

  • Create data visualizations and reports that answer questions for key stakeholders to provide insight on school and regional performance.
  • Create data visualizations and reports that link the full life cycle of employee data.
  • Translate data into relevant insights and support stakeholders on interpreting findings. Tailor the complexity of analysis appropriately to audiences with various data literacy skills (e.g., regional office, principals, Board members, etc.)

 Translating Our Mission into Goals & Targets That Focus Our Work

  • Consult with the Academics, Data, Operations, and Talent teams to create data-tracking tools & select metrics that are reliable proxies for mission progress (goals).
  • Research & propose annual targets for school-facing metrics. The resulting goals (metric + target) are ultimately approved by the Site Leadership Team & Board.  
  • Consult, research, and/or propose key/leading performance indicators (KPIs) that can be used to monitor progress towards goals during the school year.  This includes developing models that can be used to predict future performance/progress to goal.
  • Connect to regional strategy and outcomes, including candidate retention, employee attrition, and cost efficiency.

Training & Support

  • Train school leaders, assistant principals, operations leaders, and other school and regional staff to efficiently use UKG and Talent data/reports.
  • Observe, interview, establish periodic meetings, and/or build relationships with key constituent groups (leaders, regional staff, school staff, etc.) to understand their experience, gather feedback and prioritize enhancements to systems function, reports, and training.
  • Prioritize and manage relevant support requests and communicate best practices and solutions to common challenges across school sites.
  • Develop reference tools and other resources to support ongoing training and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of HRIS experience as a system administrator, ideally with UKG.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the education or nonprofit sector.
  • High proficiency in using Excel and/or Google Sheets formulas and pivot tables to manipulate, compile and analyze data. Experience using Tableau, Tableau Prep, or other Business Intelligence (BI) tools to visualize data is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze trends in data and communicate them clearly and meaningfully to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience managing and auditing data quality as a database administrator.
  • Experience automating processes and managing data.
  • Complete all required criminal and child abuse background checks:
    • PA State Police Clearance
    • PA Child Abuse Clearance
    • Cogent Federal Fingerprinting

Additional Information

  • Salary range for this position is $95,000-$105,000 commensurate with experience.
