Job Description
SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, perform various tasks involved in the preparation of the payroll and specialized clerical work in processing information and record keeping. This position will support all Precoat locations in the on-time preparation and submission of payroll.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and maintain payroll process documentation
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures
- Coordinate audit requests with internal and external auditors
- Prepare payroll journal entries
- Work with ADP and taxing authorities for research and resolution of payroll tax filing and payment matters
- Update payroll records in the payroll system (ADP)
- Assist with processing bi- weekly payroll for salaried associates.
- Assists with weekly union and non-union payroll for hourly associates in accordance with union contracts and company pay policies.
- Transmit payroll data, and maintain related records and change orders including employee files.
- Administer garnishments and wage assignments.
- Enter data from personnel/payroll forms into personnel/payroll data system.
- Serve as back up to the Human Resources Department for entering new hire payroll information into the HRIS system.
- Answer questions about payroll matters which include policy interpretation.
- Calculate adjustments, overpayment of wages, retroactive payments, special pays, and termination payments; issue manual payments as required.
- Interact with federal, state, and other authorities to process, coordinate, or resolve issues for tax levies, bankruptcies, garnishments, or other tax related matters.
- Perform routine and non-routine data retrieval, research, analysis, and reporting from the payroll records as needed.
- Reconcile payroll deductions.
- Complete forms requiring payroll data.
- Comply with work scheduling and attendance requirements according to reasonable policy and practices.
- Perform duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required. An AA or BS degree is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and payroll principles
- 5+ years of Payroll/Accounting Experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and experience with ADP required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Oracle or comparable ERP system
- Union payroll experience preferred.
