Electrical Maintenance Technician

Job Description

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities across the manufacturing plant.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on a wide range of production equipment and machinery.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Conduct fault finding on electrical control systems, motors, drives, sensors, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement projects aimed at improving plant reliability and performance.
  • Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately using maintenance management systems.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Work closely with production teams to support efficient manufacturing operations.
  • Participate in equipment installations, upgrades, and commissioning activities.
  • Assist in identifying root causes of recurring faults and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is proactive, safety-conscious, and capable of working effectively in a demanding manufacturing environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience working in an electrical maintenance role within manufacturing, industrial, or process environments.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled machinery and automated production equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, motors, drives, inverters, and control circuits.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a shift team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised Electrical Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, City & Guilds, HNC, HND, or equivalent).
  • Time-served Electrical Apprenticeship preferred.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification desirable, not essential.
  • Experience within a heavy manufacturing, wood products, process, FMCG, or industrial environment would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of PLC fault-finding and industrial automation systems is highly desirable.
