Job Description

Due to continued growth and recent project awards, FPC Global is seeking a Senior Electrical Commissioning Engineer with proven experience delivering Tier III / Tier IV-aligned data centre infrastructure.

This role is responsible for the planning, execution, and leadership of electrical commissioning activities across complex mission-critical facilities, ensuring systems meet design intent, availability objectives and operational readiness requirements in line with Uptime Institute, IEC, IEEE, and NFPA standards.

The position is site-centric and requires hands-on leadership through Integrated Systems Testing (IST), including failure mode and fault tolerance validation.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Commissioning Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end commissioning of mission-critical electrical systems including:

    • MV/LV utility and distribution systems

    • Transformers and protection systems

    • Switchgear and busway systems

    • UPS (static and rotary), battery systems

    • Standby generators, paralleling gear, and load bank systems

    • STS, PDUs, RPPs, and critical power distribution

Integrated Systems Testing (IST)

  • Develop and execute IST strategies and scripts aligned with Uptime Institute methodology.

  • Lead failure mode testing, redundancy validation, and fault tolerance demonstrations.

  • Coordinate black-building, partial load, and full load testing scenarios.

FAT / SAT / Functional Testing

  • Manage and witness Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for major electrical equipment.

  • Lead Functional Performance Testing (FPT) to verify system operation under normal, abnormal and failure conditions.

Design & Technical Assurance

  • Perform design and peer reviews at all project stages from a commissionability and operational resilience perspective.

  • Review electrical schematics, single line diagrams, protection philosophies and vendor technical submittals.

EPMS / BMS / Controls Integration

  • Validate integration of electrical systems with EPMS and BMS platforms.

  • Verify alarms, trending, sequencing, interlocks, and operational visibility during IST.

Project Interface & Coordination

  • Work closely with project managers, construction teams, MEP contractors, OEMs, and client representatives.

  • Coordinate with mechanical and IT commissioning teams to ensure holistic system integration.

Documentation & Handover

  • Develop and manage:

    • Commissioning plans and execution strategies

    • Test scripts, procedures, and checklists

    • Issue logs, punch lists, and risk registers

    • Final commissioning reports and systems manuals

  • Support client handover and transition to operations.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards including:

    • Uptime Institute Tier Standards

    • IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, local codes

  • Maintain strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Issue Resolution & Risk Management

  • Identify, analyse, and resolve electrical system deficiencies during commissioning.

  • Mitigate risk to programme, safety, and availability objectives.

Health, Safety & Leadership

  • Enforce site HSE compliance including RAMS reviews, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.

  • Lead and mentor commissioning engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.Tech / B.E. or equivalent).

  • 10+ years experience in electrical testing and commissioning of complex facilities.

  • Minimum 5 years commissioning data centres or mission-critical infrastructure, including demonstrable leadership of IST activities.

Technical Experience

  • Deep expertise in:

    • Critical power systems and redundancy architectures

    • Protection coordination and relay testing

    • UPS, generator and load bank testing

    • Energisation, black-building and fault simulation testing

  • Proven responsibility for technical quality across multiple projects.

Documentation & Technical Output

  • Development of commissioning specifications, scripts and methodologies.

  • Review and validation of sequences of operation and control philosophies.

  • Production of detailed technical and executive-level reports.

Tools & Platforms

  • EPMS, BMS and digital commissioning tools.

  • AutoCAD / BIM / Visio.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Google, Microsoft, Amazon) and data analytics.

  • Familiarity with RIBA / AIA stages of work or international equivalents.

  • Experience with FDD and automated commissioning systems is advantageous.
