KPN
Posted about 3 hours ago
Job Description
As a DevSecOps intern, you will work on a real and impactful security challenge within our cloud-native platform.
We run business-critical workloads on AWS and Kubernetes. While preventive security controls are in place, we are looking to improve our visibility into what actually happens inside running containers and cloud workloads. Think of detecting unusual behavior such as privilege escalation, credential misuse, or unexpected network activity.
During your internship, you will investigate how we can strengthen our runtime security and monitoring capabilities. You will combine research, analysis, and hands-on work to design and validate a solution. This means your work will directly help us better detect and respond to real-world security threats.
Your activities include:
- Understanding the current situation
- Analyze our AWS and Kubernetes environment
- Review existing monitoring, logging, and security controls
- Identify gaps in visibility and potential risks
- Researching possible solutions
- Explore open-source, commercial, and AWS-native tools (e.g. Falco, Tetragon, GuardDuty, OpenTelemetry)
- Compare solutions based on usability, integration, scalability, and cost
- Translate findings into clear recommendations
- Designing an improved future setup
- Define how runtime monitoring should work in our environment
- Describe how data is collected, detected, and acted upon
- Consider how the solution fits within existing tooling and processes
- Building a Proof of Concept
- Implement a selected solution in a controlled environment
- Demonstrate detection of security-relevant events
- Document setup, configuration, and findings
- Creating an implementation approach
- Outline how the solution could be rolled out
- Identify prerequisites, effort, and risks
You are not expected to know everything upfront. We value your curiosity, learning mindset, and ability to explore new technologies.
Qualifications
You are a student in IT, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, and you are eager to learn more about cloud and security. You are available for at least 5 months and you are available to work four to five days per week
You are:
- Curious and eager to learn
- Analytical and investigative
- Comfortable working independently
- Able to clearly document and communicate your findings
You bring:
- Basic knowledge of Linux and networking
- Familiarity with Docker and containers
- Understanding of Kubernetes concepts (or willingness to learn)
Nice to have:
- Interest in cybersecurity or cloud security
- Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms
- Familiarity with monitoring or logging tools
- Basic scripting skills (e.g. Bash, Python)
