Job Description

Location: Hinkley Point C, Bridgwater (hybrid on-site 3 days per week)

Grade: A

Salary: £45,000 – £47,000

Ready to play a key role in solving complex engineering challenges on one of the UK’s most ambitious low‑carbon infrastructure projects? Keen to see your calculations directly support construction and commissioning on site? At EDF, Success is Personal – and your expertise will help shape both your impact and your career.

The Opportunity

As a Mechanical Calculation Engineer, you’ll contribute directly to the delivery of safe, efficient engineering solutions supporting the construction of two EPR reactors at Hinkley Point C. Working within the Joint Design Office (JDO) on site, you’ll respond to real-time engineering queries, perform critical mechanical calculations for electrical systems, and help ensure designs meet stringent nuclear safety and quality standards, supporting the transition towards An Electric Britain.

EDF EPR Engineering UK delivers the design for nuclear island buildings, systems, and equipment for Hinkley Point C and similar projects. Working as part of an integrated team, EPR Engineering supports construction and commissioning while preparing design‑replication feasibility and related engineering activities.

You’ll join us on a salary between £45,000 - £47,000 per annum. This role is based on site at #HinkleyPointC in #Bridgwater, placing you at the centre of delivery where engineering decisions directly influence progress on a major national infrastructure project.

Working within a multi-disciplinary and multicultural engineering environment, you’ll strengthen your technical expertise in mechanical calculations applied to electrical systems. You’ll collaborate closely with installation contractors, designers, and engineers across disciplines, contribute to resolving complex site issues, and build valuable experience in nuclear engineering while supporting the successful delivery of one of the UK’s most significant energy projects.

Who You Are

We’re looking for a Mechanical Calculation Engineer who is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, site-based engineering environment. Do you offer…

  • A degree or equivalent experience in mechanical engineering or a related scientific discipline
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and standards such as EUROCODE, ASME, or RCC-M
  • Experience using 2D/3D design and analysis tools (e.g. Navisworks, ANSYS, RSTAB, PDMS, PIPESTRESS)
  • Experience producing technical documentation and engineering calculation reports
  • Strong ability to perform mechanical stress calculations and engineering assessments
  • Proven experience working in multidisciplinary or multicultural engineering teams
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Responding to engineering queries from construction and installation teams on site
  • Performing mechanical stress and flexibility calculations for electrical systems (e.g. cable trays, supports)
  • Producing and reviewing calculation notes, reports, and supporting technical documentation
  • Engaging with stakeholders to clarify issues and propose design modifications where required
  • Assessing and integrating design changes, ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of £45,000- £47,000 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
