Conformal Coating Operator
Job Summary
The Conformal Coating Operator is responsible for preparing, masking, coating, curing, inspecting, and touching up printed circuit board assemblies in a PCBA manufacturing environment. This role supports production by ensuring assemblies are properly protected from moisture, contamination, corrosion, and environmental exposure while meeting customer specifications, workmanship standards, and production schedules.
The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, good hand skills, the ability to follow work instructions, and experience working with electronic assemblies in an ESD-controlled manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare printed circuit board assemblies for conformal coating, including cleaning, handling, masking, and verification of coating requirements.

Apply conformal coating using manual spray, brush, dip, selective coating equipment, or other approved methods.

Mask and demask connectors, test points, keep-out areas, hardware, labels, and other restricted areas according to work instructions and customer requirements.

Operate curing equipment, ovens, UV cure systems, or drying processes as required.

Inspect coated assemblies for coverage, bubbles, voids, pooling, contamination, runs, overspray, lifting, peeling, and other defects.

Perform touch-up, rework, and repair of conformal coating as needed.

Verify material type, shelf life, pot life, mix ratios, lot numbers, and expiration dates before use.

Accurately complete production travelers, inspection records, material logs, and other required documentation.

Follow ESD procedures, safety requirements, chemical handling procedures, and PPE requirements.

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Communicate quality, process, material, or equipment issues to the lead, supervisor, or engineering team.

Support production schedules by meeting quality and output expectations.

Follow IPC workmanship standards, customer specifications, and internal process procedures.

Assist with process improvements, training, and cross-functional production support as needed.
Qualifications
Required
-
Previous experience in electronics manufacturing, PCBA assembly, conformal coating, masking, inspection, or related production work preferred.

Ability to read and follow written work instructions, assembly drawings, travelers, and customer specifications.

Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive precision work.

Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
-
Ability to work with small components and detailed masking requirements.
-
Basic computer and documentation skills.

Ability to work in an ESD-controlled manufacturing environment.

Ability to follow safety procedures for chemicals, solvents, coatings, and curing equipment.

Reliable attendance and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred
-
Experience with acrylic, silicone, urethane, epoxy, or UV-cure conformal coatings.

Experience with manual spray coating, brush coating, selective coating machines, or UV inspection.

Familiarity with IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or IPC-CC-830 requirements.

Experience using microscopes, black lights, or inspection aids.

Experience in aerospace, medical, defense, automotive, or high-reliability electronics manufacturing.

Prior soldering, rework, masking, staking, underfill, or mechanical assembly experience.
Physical Requirements
-
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
-
Ability to use hands and fingers for detailed masking, demasking, coating, and inspection work.

Ability to lift and move materials or assemblies up to 25 pounds.

Ability to work with microscopes, magnification tools, UV lights, and inspection equipment.

Ability to wear required PPE, including gloves, safety glasses, lab coat, respirator, or other protection as required.

Ability to work around chemicals, solvents, fumes, and coating materials in accordance with safety procedures.
Work Environment
This position is performed in a PCBA manufacturing facility and may involve working in ESD-controlled areas, coating rooms, inspection stations, production lines, and curing areas. The role may require exposure to conformal coating materials, solvents, adhesives, cleaning agents, and related chemicals. Proper PPE and safety procedures must be followed at all times.
