Software Engineer (Full-Stack), GTM Tooling

Cockroach Labs

Posted about 4 hours ago

Category-defining tech. Career-defining work.

The next era of software won’t operate at human scale. Applications will create applications. Systems will coordinate with systems. Data and decisions will move faster than teams can react to them. The infrastructure powering that world cannot be fragile, reactive, or limited by the assumptions of the past. Cockroach Labs exists to build what comes next — before the world requires it.

We created CockroachDB to survive failures, scale without compromise, and adapt to changing conditions automatically. Now we’re helping define a future where complexity fades into the background and infrastructure simply works, no matter the scale.

This is the kind of challenge that attracts people who want to shape industries, not just participate in them. The work is ambitious, the standards are high, and the impact is real.

The Role

We're looking for a Fullstack Software Engineer to join our GTM Engineering team. In this role, you’ll focus on building Cockroach Labs’ internal knowledge and intelligence infrastructure. This is a new system designed to combine the latest advances in agentic execution with deep software development fundamentals to drive meaningful improvements across not only the Revenue organization, but the company as a whole.

You’ll help define what a modern, mixed classic-and-agentic workflow system looks like: how teams build reliable, repeatable workflows in an augmented operating environment where humans and AI agents collaborate seamlessly. This is a new class of system that has the potential to redefine how Cockroach Labs operates, and you’ll play a foundational role in shaping its architecture, workflows, and user experience.

You Will

  • Feature Development & Integration: Design, implement, and maintain new features and integrations that enhance the GTM OS, our new system for delivering actionable intelligence across the company. This work will include both traditional and agentic engineering approaches, leveraging the latest AI technologies to build impactful tools and workflows.
  • UX: Design and build a next-generation workflow system with an interface optimized for seamless collaboration between users and AI agents. Delivering an intuitive and effective agent-assisted experience is critical to the success of the GTM OS platform.
  • Customer Focus: Partner directly with internal teams to understand how they spend their time and identify opportunities where we can better support them. In some cases, this may involve building entirely new features; in others, it may mean making iterative improvements to existing systems and workflows.
  • Enablement: Present and consult across Cockroach Labs to showcase the work we’ve built and help teams understand how to best leverage it. This includes presentations, detailed documentation, and workshops.
  • Observability: Design intuitive, actionable observability tools that provide clear monitoring and alerting for continuously running workflow processing systems.

The Expectations

In your first 30 days, you’ll complete Cockroach Labs’ onboarding program, gaining a solid understanding of CockroachDB’s architecture, features, and relevant development processes. During this time, you’ll also set up your local development environment, CI/CD tools, and repository access and contribute to at least one feature or tooling improvement in working closely with the other engineers for guidance and review.

By 60 days, you’ll be actively contributing to the overall design and direction of GTM OS, and will start taking on direct, low to medium complexity features or tasks while gradually building confidence and expertise.

After three months, you’ll independently lead new features end-to-end, from requirements gathering and design to implementation and deployment, demonstrating autonomy and initiative. You will proactively identify and champion improvements in the system, turning insights into concrete development proposals, and provide technical guidance to peers through direct feedback, code reviews, and best practices learned throughout your experience.

You Have

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, ideally with distributed systems or complex infrastructure projects, with a focus on the UX.
  • Comfort implementing graphical user interfaces using technologies like HTMX or React.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
  • Experience working with at least one major public cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Understanding of SQL and relational database fundamentals, including schema design and query optimization.
  • Previous experience with distributed databases or high-availability systems is a plus.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues in production environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of tailoring information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience designing and managing data pipelines for AI systems, including ETL for LLMs, vector databases, or feature stores.
  • A track record of designing and building AI-powered systems, tools, or infrastructure that others use — not just for your own productivity.
  • A builder's instinct for reuse and extensibility. Your output becomes a platform, pattern, or capability others depend on.
  • Clear judgment about where AI should be deeply integrated and where traditional approaches are more reliable.
  • Enthusiasm for staying up-to-date with emerging technologies and incorporating them into new or existing solutions.
  • Openness to giving and receiving feedback, with a mindset of continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
