Location: NYC (Hybrid – 3 days onsite/week)

We are seeking an experienced VMware Virtualization Engineer SME to join our team and support a large-scale virtualization platform for the Americas region. The ideal candidate has deep hands-on expertise in VMware technologies and a strong background in automation, capacity management, and infrastructure modernization.
Role and responsibilities
- Lead the migration to VMware Cloud Foundation 9 (VCF 9) and manage the full VMware stack (vSphere, NSX-T, vSAN, Aria Operations, VRLI, VRNI) for high availability and ultra low latency requirements.
- Monitor real-time capacity, review and validate all incoming capacity increase requests, and drive the replacement of end-of-life servers to ensure service continuity.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, PowerCLI) to automate provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management across the virtualization layer.
- Deploy AI-driven monitoring and self-healing playbooks within Aria Operations to anticipate bottlenecks and resolve performance issues without human intervention.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support on a 24x7 on-call rotation, including daily health checks, OS and firmware upgrades, and mandatory security patching.
- Participate in DR planning and testing, maintaining RPO of 5 seconds or less and RTO of 15 minutes or less for critical workloads.
Qualifications
- +5 years of experience with large-scale VMware environments (vSphere 8+, NSX-T, vSAN) including cloud-native migrations.
- Expert-level automation skills using PowerCLI, Ansible, Terraform, vRealize Automation, and PowerShell/Python scripting.
- Hands-on experience with Aria Operations, VRLI, and VRNI for performance monitoring, log analytics, and network insight.
- Solid understanding of enterprise storage (EMC/Isilon, Pure Storage, Dell/NetApp SAN, iSCSI) and deep networking knowledge (TCP/IP, VLANs, NSX-T micro-segmentation).
- Experience applying AI ops concepts including predictive monitoring, automated root cause analysis, and intelligent capacity forecasting.
- VMware certifications preferred (VCP-CMA, VCAP-CF); ITIL Foundation is a plus.
