Purpose

We are looking for a MariaDB Expert who will serve as a technical specialist for designing, building, monitoring, optimizing, and maintaining MariaDB database environments.
The role also includes analyzing datasets, identifying optimization opportunities, improving performance, and validating technical approaches through data-driven decision-making.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• Administration, operation, and maintenance of MariaDB database environments
• Design, implementation, and optimization of MariaDB architectures
• Planning and executing installations, upgrades, migrations, and patching of MariaDB instances
• Monitoring database performance and tuning queries, indexes, and configurations
• Implementing and maintaining backup & recovery strategies, including PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery)
• Troubleshooting database issues, analyzing root causes, and implementing long-term fixes
• Ensuring high availability, reliability, and optimal performance of MariaDB systems
• Managing replication setups (master-slave, GTID, semi-sync, etc.)
• Supporting high availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) environments (e.g., Galera Cluster, MaxScale)
• Creating and maintaining technical documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures
• Collaborating closely with development, infrastructure, and operations teams
• Ensuring compliance with security policies, audit standards, and general governance requirements
• Contributing to automation initiatives and continuous service improvements

Qualifications

YOU WILL SUCCEED IF YOU:

• Have minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with MariaDB or MySQL administration
• Strong understanding of MariaDB architecture, components, and internal processes
• Practical experience with:

  • Installation, configuration, maintenance
  • Query tuning, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies
  • Backup & recovery concepts and tools
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting complex issues
    • Solid knowledge of SQL and ability to optimize complex queries
    • Familiarity with Linux server environments (administration fundamentals required)
    • Experience with replication (ROW/STATEMENT, GTID, async, semi-sync)
    • Experience with HA/cluster setups (Galera, MaxScale – advantage)
    • Analytical, systematic, and structured way of working
    • Strong teamwork, communication skills, and customer-oriented approach
    • Ability and willingness to perform on-call duties

 

Nice-to-Have Technical Knowledge

• Experience with additional RDBMS platforms (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server)
• Understanding of cloud-based database services (Azure, AWS RDS, Google Cloud SQL)
• Knowledge of shell scripting (Bash) or automation tools
• Experience with monitoring tools and dashboards (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Zabbix)
• Familiarity with containerized database deployments (Docker, Kubernetes)

 

Certifications (Preferred)

• MariaDB, MySQL, or Linux administration certifications are an advantage

Language Requirements

• English: Upper Intermediate (B2)
• German: Nice to Have

Salary

Final salary is negotiable.

We are offering base salary depending on seniority level and previous experience of candidate. In addition to base salary we provide variable part and other financial benefits. Base salary will not be lower than 1300€ /brutto.

* Please be informed that our remote working possibility is only available within Slovakia due to European taxation regulation.
