Job Description
THE OPPORTUNITY
Before a single ply of carbon fibre is laid up, someone has to get it exactly right. As a Junior Kit Cutting and Digitiser Technician at Williams F1 Team, you’re the first link in the chain, ensuring every kit, insert, and material that reaches our composites team is cut, processed, and documented to the highest standard.
This is a role for someone who takes genuine pride in process, accuracy, and doing things properly. You don’t need years of F1 experience, but you do need to care about the details. In a sport where margins are measured in milliseconds, the work you do in the kit room matters.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Operate our Zund cutting table and Sigmanest software to produce precision-cut kits for composites production.
- Reverse engineer laminator templates using Sigmanest digitising tools and process and optimise Fibresim 2D DXF files.
- Prepare inserts for composite manufacturing via chemical etching and vapour blasting, operating our in-house chemical etching plant.
- Book materials in and out using inventory management software, maintaining full traceability of all raw material movements.
- Track and maintain raw material batch records, outlife, and shelf-life data to ensure nothing goes out of spec.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and Ply Books to support accurate kit preparation.
- Carry out daily equipment maintenance checks and keep work areas maintained to 5S standards.
- Process supporting manufacturing documentation to QA requirements.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Strong attention to detail, you notice what others miss and you don’t cut corners.
- Good PC literacy and confidence working with software packages; experience with cutting or inventory systems is a bonus.
- Ability to read engineering drawings or Ply Books (or a genuine willingness to learn quickly).
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable completing documentation accurately.
- A methodical, process-driven approach and the initiative to flag issues before they become problems.
- GCSEs or A-Levels (or equivalent); prior experience in a manufacturing or technical environment is desirable but not
This is a NIGHTS shift Monday to Thursday 18:15 – 04:45
