Job Description

The Data Centre Cooling Engineer will be responsible for the commissioning of HVAC and cooling systems within data centres. This role involves ensuring that cooling systems are installed and operating in accordance with project specifications, performance requirements, and regulatory guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HVAC systems, cooling technologies, and their application in high-performance data centre environments.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

 

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or a related field or related trade qualifications.

 

Experience:

 

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commissioning HVAC or cooling systems, preferably within a data centre environment.

Proven experience in commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting complex cooling systems (chillers, cooling towers, air distribution systems, CRAC/CRAH & CDU’s etc.).

 

Technical Skills:

 

Strong understanding of data centre cooling systems, including precision cooling, chilled water systems, and DX systems.

 

Familiarity with control systems, BMS (Building Management Systems), and monitoring tools used in HVAC systems.

Knowledge of relevant standards and guidelines (ASHRAE, ISO, etc.).

 

Certifications:

 

Commissioning certifications such as ASHRAE CxA (Commissioning Process Management Professional) or

HVACR-related certifications are advantageous

 

Personal Attributes:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.

Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and precision.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure.

Flexible and proactive appraoch

 

Additional Information

Key Responsibilities:

 

Commissioning & Testing:

 

Conduct commissioning activities for critical cooling systems (CRAC & CRAH units, In Row Cooling Units & Coolant Distribution Units both liquid to air and liquid to liquid style systems, etc.) to ensure proper installation and performance. This will range from L2-L5 commissioning stages.

Perform functional and operational tests of cooling systems to verify that they meet design specifications.

Conduct load and performance testing to evaluate the system's efficiency under operational conditions.

 

Quality Assurance & Compliance:

 

Ensure cooling systems comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and project specifications (ASHRAE, BREEAM, etc.).

Develop and implement detailed commissioning plans, including test scripts, procedures, and performance benchmarks.

Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to safety regulations and best practices.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:

 

 

 

 

 

Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with cooling systems during the commissioning process.

 

Work closely with installation teams to address and rectify any faults or design deviations.

 

Documentation & Reporting:

 

Prepare commissioning reports, test data sheets, and as-built documentation.

Maintain accurate records of system performance, test results, and issues encountered during the commissioning process.

 

Training & Support:

 

The successful cabndidate will become a Delta Cooling product specialist and will support the wider DCS team in the following areas:

 

Train new Delta engineers on the cooling product family

Provide technical support to project and product management teams

Be responsible for technical support enquiries through the Delta CRM system

Undertake regular training on any new developments and products within the Delta cooling product family.

Deliver training to internal and external stakeholders

 

Collaboration:

 

Liaise with project managers, design teams, contractors, and vendors to ensure successful completion of projects.

Coordinate with electrical and mechanical engineers to integrate cooling systems with other data centre infrastructure.

 

 

 

System Optimisation:

 

Provide recommendations for system improvements or optimisations based on commissioning results.

Assist in the fine-tuning of cooling systems to ensure energy efficiency and reliability.

 

Post-Commissioning Support:

 

Provide post-commissioning support to the operations team, including training on system operation and maintenance.

Undertake ongoing planned and corrective maintenance for cooling systems uncder Delta SLA agreements.

International & domestic travel will be required depending on project locations. Travel to delta facilities for training will also be required

Ability to work in highly active environments, particularly during critical phases of commissioning and data centre go-live stages.
