Join Us at a Defining Moment
At Intelligen, we're building something different. Over the past three years, we've evolved from a bold startup to a trusted partner for some of Australia's most complex data transformations. We've helped organisations move from legacy to modern platforms, embedded governance into decision-making, and brought AI into the hands of the business responsibly and at speed.
As we continue to grow, we're looking for experienced consultants who can help organisations establish trust in their data, strengthen governance foundations, and enable responsible adoption of analytics and AI.
We're seeking a Senior Data Governance Consultant to lead and deliver governance initiatives across some of Australia's most important transformation programs. This is a role for someone who understands that governance is not about control for its own sake, but about creating the conditions for better decisions, stronger accountability, and greater business value.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Governance Consultant who can design, implement, and embed practical governance capabilities across complex enterprise environments.
This role combines governance expertise with strong consulting and stakeholder engagement skills. You will work closely with executives, business leaders, data teams, and technology stakeholders to establish governance frameworks that improve trust, transparency, compliance, and organisational capability.
You will help organisations strengthen the foundations required to support modern data platforms, analytics programs, and AI initiatives by improving data ownership, stewardship, quality, metadata management, and governance operating models.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery and can confidently engage stakeholders from the boardroom through to operational teams.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models aligned to organisational objectives
- Establish governance structures, roles, and accountability models that improve ownership and decision-making across business and technology teams
- Define and implement data stewardship frameworks, governance forums, and operating rhythms that support sustainable governance practices
- Support organisations in improving data quality, metadata management, lineage, and information management capabilities
- Develop governance controls and processes that enable trusted analytics, reporting, and AI adoption
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops, governance councils, and working groups to drive alignment and engagement
- Collaborate with business, risk, compliance, legal, and technology teams to ensure governance requirements are embedded into delivery practices
- Support the implementation and adoption of governance tooling including data catalogues, metadata platforms, and lineage solutions
- Develop governance roadmaps, maturity assessments, and capability uplift initiatives
- Provide trusted advisory services to senior stakeholders and contribute to governance strategy development
- Mentor client teams and contribute to Intelligen's governance capability growth and thought leadership
Requirements
- 6+ years' experience in data governance, information management, data management, or consulting roles
- Proven experience designing and implementing governance frameworks, policies, standards, and operating models
- Strong understanding of governance disciplines including data quality, metadata management, lineage, stewardship, master data, and information lifecycle management
- Experience supporting enterprise data transformation, analytics, cloud, or AI initiatives
- Familiarity with industry frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK and related governance methodologies
- Experience with governance platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, or similar technologies
- Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills across business and technical audiences
- Ability to balance governance requirements with practical delivery outcomes
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts for executive and operational stakeholders
- Consulting experience within large enterprise or regulated environments is highly regarded
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting responsible AI, AI governance, or AI risk management initiatives
- Experience within financial services, government, utilities, healthcare, telecommunications, or other regulated industries
- Exposure to modern data platforms including Snowflake, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, AWS, or GCP
- Certification in DAMA, CDMP, DCAM, or related governance disciplines

Influence Without Authority
Building alignment across diverse stakeholder groups and creating momentum through collaboration, credibility, and trust.
