The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Coke Plant 2 Operations team is looking for an Operations Coordinator to join the team in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The Cokemaking process is an integral part of our manufacturing operations and is one of the first steps in creating Iron and Steel. At Coke Plant 2 (CP2), we ensure the safe and reliable coke production to deliver world class coke quality. Here, we oversee the 7 battery Coke ovens operations, the Coal Handling operations and the Coke Handling operations.

In this role you will oversee the 7 Battery Coke ovens production area by supporting, coordinating and managing the day-to-day operations. As well managing long term business improvement initiatives, ensuring your team is focused on the delivery of exceptional Safety, Environment and Operational Excellence performance. You will assist the Coke Plant 2 Operations Manager and shift operations team to lead and manage the team’s success through their performance and productivity to ensure our business plan objectives and targets are continually met.

This role works Monday to Friday however this supports a 24/7 operational site where there may be the occasional need to provide guidance to the team. 

What Will You Do?

With a keen interest to grow and develop yourself, you’ll support team leaders and actively participate in providing continuous improvement within the CP2 team. You will be responsible for:

  • champion safety, environmental compliance and risk management across operations
  • support and coordinate daily production and maintenance activities
  • provide technical guidance to 24/7 shift teams (including after-hours support)
  • monitor performance, quality and key process parameters
  • investigate incidents, identify root causes and drive improvements
  • improve plant reliability and reduce operational delays
  • support shutdown planning and execution with maintenance teams
  • coach and develop team capability, training and accreditation
