About the Team

Droyd builds autonomous robotic systems that automate repetitive manual work in real environments. We design and manufacture our hardware in-house, which means iteration, fabrication, and execution all happen under one roof.

Building robots quickly and reliably requires strong execution on the shop floor. Our assembly team translates engineering work into functioning systems and is central to prototype throughput, hardware quality, and day-to-day execution.

About the Role

As the Assembly Tech Lead at Droyd, you will lead day-to-day assembly execution for robotic hardware builds. You will help answer questions, unblock technicians, maintain build quality, and make sure the team is moving efficiently.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants ownership, moves quickly, and takes pride in getting hardware built right.

This role is based on-site in San Francisco, CA.

In This Role, You'll

Build Leadership

  • Lead day-to-day assembly work for robot builds and subassemblies

  • Support and unblock assembly technicians during builds

  • Step into hands-on build work whenever needed

Quality & Process

  • Help maintain assembly quality, consistency, and pace

  • Identify process issues and help improve assembly workflows

  • Support light process development and build documentation

Coordination

  • Coordinate closely with engineers and shop staff on changing designs and priorities

  • Communicate build status, blockers, and resource needs clearly

Work Environment & Schedule

  • On-site in San Francisco, CA

  • Full-time

Compensation: $85K–$115K base salary, plus equity

This role involves standing for extended periods, working with hand and power tools, and close attention to detail.

We're Looking For Candidates Who

  • Have strong hands-on assembly experience with mechanical or electromechanical systems

  • Can lead by doing and help others work effectively

  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and bias-to-action

  • Communicate clearly with both technicians and engineers

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership hardware environment

Nice to have:

  • Experience leading small build teams

  • Experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, Formula SAE, or hardware startups

  • Experience with light process development or build documentation
