Job Description

The Psychiatric Certified Medical Assistant (PCMA) supports psychiatric providers and helps ensure the efficient operation of the Psychiatric Clinic. This position rooms patients, prepares them for appointments, and performs back-office clinical duties such as collecting baseline data, including vital signs, maintaining accurate clinical records, and helping manage provider caseloads.

Under the direct supervision of the Behavioral Health Coordinator and the general oversight of a psychiatric provider, the PCMA works closely with the care team to deliver team-based, patient-centered care in accordance with best practices and NATIVE HEALTH (NH) policies. This role helps maintain a therapeutic, efficient clinical environment that supports both providers and patients throughout treatment. 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Provide and promote excellent customer service to visitors, patients, clients, and staff in person and on the phone.
  2. Screens patients, documents findings in the electronic medical record system, and alerts the practitioner to special care needs.
  3. Assist the practitioner and other professional staff in the delivery of patient care; reinforces discharge instructions and deliverables.
  4.  Administers medications under the direction of healthcare professionals; documents the same in the medical information system.
  5. Support the Native Health mission as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Must possess excellent communication skills.
  2. Provide outstanding customer service and help patients feel welcome.
  3. Knowledge of the medical clinic purpose and operations.
  4. Ability to prioritize duties, perform them efficiently and adjust to and accept unexpected events.
  5. Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality policies and regulations.
  6. knowledge of medical terminology.
  7. Medication administration knowledge and skills. (Satisfactory pass medial assistant competencies)
  8. Knowledge of computer-based applicants, such as Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  9. Knowledge of Infection Control and prevention processes.
  10.   Ability to work efficiently and comfortably with other medical clinic employees.
  11. Ability to use electronic health records.
  12. Ability to be punctual and dependable.
  13. Ability to utilize supplies and equipment in a cost-efficient manner.
  14. Willingness to learn new tasks consistent with MA training.
  15. Skills in the use of medical instruments and supplies.
  16. Knowledge of the cultural and social background of the Native American and Alaska Native (AI/AN) and other minority populations. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High school diploma or GED required.
  2. Medical Assistant certification required from an accredited college or training institution.
  3. Current CMA, RMA, or CCMA credential from the American Association of Medial Assistants (AAMA), American Meidal Technologists (AMT), or National Health career Association (NHA) required. 
  4. Two years of experience as an MA in a family practice outpatient setting, including experience with child and adult patients.
  5. Evidence of current medication administration knowledge and skills.
  6. Comprehension of HIPPA regulations, compliance and violation reporting.
  7. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferred.
  8. Must always be professional in demeanor, dress, and presentation of person and materials produced by this organization. 
  9. Must be dependable, punctual, reliable, relate well to others, and able to meet deadlines.
  10. Must be flexible to work late hours, as necessary.
  11. Healthcare information entry and retrieval from the electronic health record skills.

Standard Employment Requirements:

  1. Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license during employment. Must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH’s liability auto policy.
  2. Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
  3. Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment.
  4. Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record.
  5. Must submit a recent report of Tuberculosis (TB) skin test upon employment and obtain a TB skin test annually.
  6. Must obtain BLS certification within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.
