Job Description

Make a real environmental impact—on the ground, where it matters most.

Are you an experienced Ecological or Environmental Clerk of Works ready for your next challenge? Do you want a role where no two days are the same—working on projects that genuinely protect and enhance the environment?

We’re looking for passionate ECoWs / EnvCoWs to join our growing team, supporting a wide range of projects across Scotland—from renewable energy and infrastructure to peatland restoration.

If you thrive in a site-based role, enjoy collaborating with teams, and want to help deliver sustainable outcomes, we want to hear from you.

Why join us?

At our core, we’re a business driven by purpose—helping clients deliver projects responsibly while protecting the natural environment. You’ll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that invests in your growth and development.

We offer:

  • A diverse project portfolio across Scotland
  • A supportive and experienced ecological team network
  • Opportunities for flexible and part-time working
  • Career development tailored to your goals
  • The chance to make a meaningful environmental impact every day

The role

This is a predominantly site-based position, with time allocated for reporting and project coordination. You’ll play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance during construction phases across a range of projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the on-site environmental/ecological advisor
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental commitments, planning conditions, and legislation
  • Supporting pollution prevention and environmental best practice
  • Delivering toolbox talks and engaging site teams
  • Collecting water quality samples and monitoring site performance
  • Attending and contributing to site meetings
  • Producing clear and accurate ECoW logs and reports
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, and project managers
  • Supporting surveys, documentation, and environmental planning
  • Contributing to Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
  • Working closely with senior ecologists and project teams
  • Playing an active role in our ECoW community of practice

    Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in an ECoW, EnvCoW or Environmental Advisor role
    • Strong report writing skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
    • Strong health & safety awareness and site experience
    • Full UK driving licence

    Desirable:

    • Membership of CIEEM (or working towards)
    • Valid CSCS card
    • Knowledge of UK environmental legislation and guidance
    • Experience with protected species (support available if not)
    • Project management skills with the ability to deliver to time and budget
