Job Description

This new position is responsible for designing and implementing a framework to manage regulatory approval processes related to all company activities within the Waihi area. This includes the current Waihi Mining operation, Waihi North Project, and regional exploration programs.

You will ensure we have a documented and formalised process for undertaking planning assessments, storing and administering approvals and relevant documentation, monitoring and reporting of approvals requirements, and identifying when a formal change of an existing approval is required.

You will also be responsible for verifying and ensuring all relevant departments are adhering to the system, once in place. Approvals to be covered include Resource Consents, Building Consents, Archaeological Authorities and Department of Conservation approvals such as Access Arrangements and Wildlife Act Authorities.

You will have had extensive experience with managing and ensuring approval compliance for complex activities, ideally in a mining or natural resources sector setting.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of a site regulatory compliance framework, from planning assessment stage to consent implementation and compliance.
  • Ensuring appropriate systems are in place to manage compliance registers, consent condition tracking, consent renewals, and regulatory reporting. Including.
    • Ensure the integration of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) into the regulatory compliance framework, ensuring spatial data underpins approvals, monitoring, and reporting processes.
    • Ensure all approvals, consent conditions, and environmental constraints are accurately spatially referenced and maintained within GIS platforms.
  • Provide regulatory and compliance oversight ensuring activities align with approved consents, permits, and regulatory frameworks
  • Ensure site wide approvals processes are being managed and implemented according to the compliance framework, including developing and implementing assurance processes, including audits, inspections, and performance monitoring frameworks.
  • Work with the Environmental, Projects, External Affairs and Social Performance, and Exploration departments to ensure the compliance framework is applied appropriately.
  • Monitor and track compliance requirements, ensuring that all permits and approvals are up to date and in accordance with regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of environmental specialists and other departments to ensure compliance goals are met.
  • Stay up to date with changes in environmental regulations, planning law and industry best practices, providing guidance and training to staff as needed.
  • Provide regular internal and external reporting to on regulatory performance, approvals status, compliance risks, and emerging regulatory issues.
  • Ensuring that all work carried out is undertaken with the highest standards of safety as per SOPs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  •  Full and Current Driver Licence, ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in approvals management, ideally with experience implementing approvals for complex projects spanning multiple approval types (e.g. RMA consents, Wildlife Act Authorities, Access Arrangements)
  • Strong knowledge of NZ environmental and planning policy, regulations, permitting processes, and best practices
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience in a business planning & risk management role
