Job Description
The Didipio mine is located on Luzon Island in the Philippines and is the Company’s only asset that produces both gold and copper. Didipio was built by OceanaGold in 2013 and operates fully as underground mine, with over 800 employees that support the mine.
OceanaGold is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and reliable, Vice President – External Affairs & Social Performance.This role will also support the Country President to build improved frameworks and clear EA&SP strategic plans for Didipio, ensuring OceanaGold’s presence in the Philippines is guided by a coherent, enterprise‑level strategic framework that translates into disciplined execution and improves the quality, consistency, and timeliness of future EA&SP strategic decisions relating to our operations and exploration opportunities.
Main Accountabilities:
The role is specifically accountable for:
Lead delivery of EA&SP outcomes to enable the Philippines Exploration strategy (as defined by key internal stakeholders in Operations and Exploration) to be executed in a timely manner, in alignment with company policies, standards, and guidelines;
In collaboration with the Country President, present evidence‑based strategic insights to the ELT to inform exploration, M&A, and capital deployment decisions (drawing on the external scanning and institutional knowledge developed through this role).
Provide broad scanning and analysis of the external environment (policy and regulatory settings at national and local levels, NGO/civil society activity, security and social dynamics, and other factors that influence exploration approvals and land access) to inform business continuity, resilience, and decision‑making across the Philippines growth portfolio;
Use the existing Philippines strategy and work with relevant Executive and Country leaders to establish clear, measurable indicators of success for the Philippines growth pillars, then implement performance tracking, accountability, and timely reporting.
Build and maintain institutional understanding of Philippines‑specific risks, opportunities, stakeholders, and decision logic, ensuring knowledge transfer and continuity of governance to support organisational resilience; and
Work in close partnership with the Chief Sustainability Officer, Philippines Country President, and senior corporate leaders to ensure the Philippines growth strategy is clearly understood and executed to plan.
Actively support M&A activities planned for the Philippines and globally as directed by the Chief Sustainability Officer.
Identify risks to achieving the Philippines Strategy and present to Steer Co for consideration and resolution
Qualifications
- Behaviour consistent with OceanaGold Values and the OceanaGold Way
- Bachelor in Social Sciences or similar educational background
- Minimum of 15+ years' experience in External Affairs, Sustainability, or Social Performance, preferably in mining or highly regulated industries
- 5–10+ years executive or senior leadership experience, leading strategic thinking and policy analysis capability (e.g., regulatory scanning, risk evaluation, investment decision support)
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, including government, NGOs, and communities
- Background in M&A support, due diligence, or large-scale project approvals
- Strong communication and reporting skills, including board-level presentations and strategic documentation
- Strong knowledge of Philippine regulatory, political, and stakeholder environment, including Indigenous Peoples’ rights and permitting processes
- Travel, as required, to the Didipio Mine site and other locations as required, with a strong field (community and stakeholder) focus
