Role Overview

As a member of Omdia’s semiconductor research team, the Senior Research Analyst for pure play foundry is responsible for developing and aggregating data and analysis that is used by the leadership of many of the leading companies in the world.

This role will support ongoing research and analysis in terms of building out research network, exploring new areas of coverage, helping understand key client needs and in building Omdia’s profile as a thought leader in the pure play foundry space.

The analyst will become one of Omdia’s market experts in this area, interacting with customers and sharing market knowledge both inside and outside the company.  Key dynamics to understand include capacity changes, utilization rates, new technology development, foundry ecosystem and regional dynamics.

The analyst will share responsibility for publishing a standard set of deliverables for each pure play foundry quarterly update including including capacity trends, shipment analysis by technology and quarterly forecasts across industry categories.  Developing a clear narrative and understanding of technology shifts, regional updates, vendor strategies and impact of global events is key.​

Key responsibilities

  • Building base data – Generate, maintain, and expand databases for pure play foundry through background research, relationships with leading market players, and estimations when company data is not available.  The analyst will maintain databases and log assumptions in a clear manner.
  • Develop market projections – Use industry knowledge and data models to generate market forecasts.  Be able to present and explain your forecasts and background reasoning to clients and other team members.
  • Scoping – Keep up to date on changes in the industry and technology to refine your research as necessary.  Customer driven research enhancements and product evolution is a priority.
  • Analysis - Produce clear and concise analysis based on robust research.  Connect the dots across different dynamics and factors producing a clear narrative based on defendable data and a consistent research methodology.
  • Specialist support – Provide one to one briefings for customers to address specific topics and questions of concern.
  • Thought leadership – Produce real-time insights and supporting press material to highlight and promote research output.  Leverage a range of channels and formats to support profile development for the pure play foundry research and the analyst team developing the content.
  • Travel to relevant trade events such as APEC and PCIM to develop supplier relationships and present key findings from market research.
  • Commercial focus – Work with the sales team to understand key client/market needs to support lead development, maintain and develop relationships, and support subscription renewals. Use external engagements to drive research evolution.
  • Profile building – Represent the Omdia brand at functions and events, growing both your own, and Omdia’s, reputation within the industry by interacting with the senior leadership of some of the largest companies and fastest growing start-ups.
  • Inquiries and consulting support – Support client inquiries as needed, providing deeper insights into forecasts, reports, and other Omdia research. Work with the Omdia consulting team to support needs beyond the syndicated portfolio.  Responsibilities include defining proposal, performing new primary/secondary research, and fulfilling production and delivery of specific client deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a STEM subject; master’s degree preferred
  • 6+ years’ experience in the semiconductor or engineering-related industry preferred
  • Curiosity to understand the pure play foundry semiconductor market, stay up to date on changes in technology and the forces that drive/impact the market 
  • Comfortable reaching out to industry sources and developing relationships
  • Leads collaborative effort towards a common goal; knows who and where to seek support
  • Confident thought leader with the ability to identify themes and topics as a basis for blogs, insights, videos and other content for external consumption
  • Ability to think outside the box in approaching problems to find innovative solutions
  • Expertise in MS Excel for data building, data manipulation, data organization, and pivot table creation
  • Track record of prioritizing time for competing tasks
  • Ability to write clear, structured, concise, and insightful reports
  • Comfortable interacting with clients to conduct interviews, present research, and develop commercial relationships
  • Multitasking – ability to prioritize and delegate competing tasks effectively
  • Use assumptions and logical thinking to create estimates, scenarios, and forecasts
