Job Description

Culina Group is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Head of Sustainability to define and deliver our Group-wide sustainability and ESG strategy.

This is a high-impact leadership role with responsibility for embedding sustainability into how we operate, invest, and partner with customers. You’ll translate ambition into delivery, driving measurable environmental and social outcomes while supporting commercial performance, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance.

You will play a critical role in positioning Culina as a trusted, future-ready supply chain partner, enabling both the business and our customers to transition to lower-impact operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and lead the Group’s Sustainability & ESG strategy, aligned to business priorities and customer expectations
  • Set clear ambitions, targets, and measurable outcomes, including decarbonisation goals
  • Build and manage a multi-year roadmap of initiatives across the Group

Programme Delivery & Impact

  • Lead decarbonisation and climate transition programmes across warehousing and transport
  • Drive energy efficiency, renewable adoption, fleet transition, and operational optimisation
  • Advance resource efficiency, waste reduction, and circular practices across the business

Governance & Reporting

  • Establish sustainability governance, policies, and standards across the Group
  • Develop an audit-ready ESG data capability covering carbon (Scopes 1–3), energy, waste, water, and social metrics
  • Own sustainability reporting, disclosures, and external assurance aligned with UK/EU requirements

Commercial Integration

  • Embed sustainability into investment decisions, business cases, and operational processes
  • Partner with commercial teams to strengthen customer propositions through sustainability
  • Support the business in meeting customer ESG expectations and requirements

Supplier & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Drive responsible procurement and supplier engagement on ESG standards and emissions reduction
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships with operations, transport, engineering, procurement, finance, HR, and IT
  • Lead internal engagement, capability building, and culture change across the organisation

Qualifications

  • Proven experience leading sustainability / ESG strategy within a complex operational environment (e.g. logistics, manufacturing, retail)
  • Strong understanding of UK/EU sustainability regulation and disclosure requirements (e.g. SECR, CSRD/ESRS, ISSB/TCFD-aligned reporting)
  • Hands-on expertise in carbon accounting and emissions reduction planning, including Scopes 1–3 and GHG Protocol methodologies
  • Track record of delivering measurable sustainability outcomes (e.g. emissions reduction, resource efficiency, compliance) through structured programmes
  • Strong data and systems capability—able to design ESG data models, reporting frameworks, and controls that stand up to audit
  • Commercial and financial acumen, with experience building investment cases (capex/opex, ROI, total cost of ownership, marginal abatement cost)
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to embed sustainability into core business operations
  • Experience driving responsible procurement and engaging suppliers on ESG performance and standards
  • Knowledge of environmental management systems and compliance (e.g. ISO 14001 principles) and ESG risk management
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical sustainability topics into clear, compelling messages for different audiences
