Job Summary
The EHS Corporate Compliance Specialist plays an essential role in establishing and promoting a culture of safety within an organization, focusing on compliance with both internal safety policies and external regulatory requirements. This position involves auditing safety protocols across multiple locations, ensuring that each site adheres to the highest standards of workplace safety and health. This also includes providing a high level report of the compliance audit, creating and overseeing corrective action plans (in conjunction with the Regional EHS Director) and offering scheduled reports on the effectiveness of the plan. This position will also assist the EHS Corporate Compliance and Integration Advisor in developing company-wide corrective action tracking and thoroughness of incident investigations.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Enforcing Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Audit project, site, area and regions on compliance to regulatory, company and client requirements and standards.
  • Develop reporting of audit findings.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, including company policies, the Site Safety Health Environmental Plan (SSP), client guidelines, and relevant federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA).
  • Regulatory Compliance – Perform continual monitoring of job site and work habits to ensure compliance with company and regulatory health and safety regulations. Inspections consist of, but are not limited to: Lockout-Tagout, Required Permits and other job forms, Work Habits, Facility Inspections, and Construction Site Inspections.
  • Incident Investigations/Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Assist Corporate EHS Integration and Compliance Advisor in ensuring incident investigations are thorough, accurate and complete.
  • Ensure corrective actions are correct, applicable, and completed.
  • Providing adequate and proper documentation and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensuring operational management is provided with safety analytics related to incident reports, hazards, corrective actions, etc.
  • Utilize KPA reporting including but not limited to Safety Alerts, Incident Investigation reports, Root Cause Analysis, etc.
  • Work with operations and safety management team to determine actionable items related to incidents and enforce completion.
  • Coordination with Operations
  • Communication – Establish a firm communication system between operations and H&S by making themselves available and responsive to requests from field employees and managers.
  • Works closely with the operations team to ensure the proper training for compliance deficiencies after auditing is performed.
  • Works closely with the operations team to facilitate and maintain a culture where safety “is who we are”. Enable and facilitate a setting where the entire organization is engaged to achieve behavior based safe work excellence.
  • Works constantly to assist team in continual development of human performance collaboration, communication, and teamwork.
  • Acts to ensure safety team is a constructive partner with the operations team and is a resource to operations. Earns the operations team respect as a strong leader and advocate of the management team.
  • Interfaces with customer’s safety team on a frequent basis. Closely align company systems with customer requirements.
  • Performing Site Inspections, Audits, and Monitoring
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify safety violations, potential hazards, or non-compliance with safety regulations.
  • Document inspections and audits in a timely and adequate manner.
  • Promptly address issues, provide solutions, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintaining Safety Records and Documentation
  • Assist Safety Management (Regional, Corporate, etc.) with data gathering, analytics, and creation of daily, weekly, monthly safety meeting topics and documentation.
  • Liaising with Regulatory Agencies
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, participate in inspections, and facilitate audits to uphold safety standards.
  • Ensure proper documentation and notification of all citations and assist in implementation of corrective actions and preventative measures.
  • Continuous Improvement of Safety Practices
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.
  • Collaborate with Regional Safety Management to identify opportunities for enhancing safety measures and implementing new strategies for improved safety performance.
  • Provide feedback from the field to aid in process improvement and implementation progress.
  • Analyze safety data and trends within the region to identify areas for improvement, develop strategic safety plans, and present findings and recommendations to senior management in conjunction with Corporate EHS Compliance and Integration Advisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Required: (2-4 bullets max)

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in industrial construction, mining, electrical construction, pipeline or associated industries with an experience focus on EHS management, systems and compliance.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS experience in construction or mining, with increasing levels of responsibility and leadership
  • Extensive working knowledge of regulatory requirements and agencies with a proven track record of managing compliance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred: (2-4 bullets max)

  • Experience with facilitation of RCAs (preferably TapRoot) and the development of appropriate corrective and preventative actions.

Strong analytical skills with experience on data trending, development of Improvement plans and ability to coordinate with all levels of management

  • Indoor office setting with controlled temperature
