Ready to take your payroll career beyond processing and into analytics, systems, and remuneration strategy? ⚡

At Smart Energy, we're helping thousands of Australian homeowners transition to solar, batteries, EV charging, hot water heat pumps, and smarter energy solutions.

What started as two mates in a Byron Bay warehouse has grown into one of Australia's fastest-growing home electrification businesses, with 15+ offices nationwide, over 320 employees and a reputation for innovation, growth, and exceptional customer outcomes.

Now backed by Rinnai Australia, we're entering our next phase of growth and looking for a talented Payroll & Commissions Specialist to join our Byron Bay HQ.

This is not your typical payroll role.

You'll sit at the centre of payroll, commissions, data analytics, and system optimisation, helping ensure our remuneration programs are accurate, scalable, and aligned with business performance.

🚀 The Opportunity

As our Payroll & Commissions Specialist, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy of payroll, incentive, and commission calculations across the business.

You'll work closely with the Head of Remuneration, Finance, IT, Business Analysts, and key stakeholders to analyse complex datasets, maintain commission models, support payroll operations, and drive continuous improvement across remuneration systems and processes.

This role is ideal for someone who loves numbers, enjoys solving complex problems, and thrives working with data.

### ⚡ What You'll Be Doing
Commission & Incentive Calculations
  • Extract, analyse, and translate operational data into accurate incentive and commission calculations.

  • Design, build, and maintain commission model calculations, ensuring ongoing accuracy and relevance.

  • Support the continuous improvement of commission models in collaboration with key business stakeholders.

  • Systems & Technical Collaboration
  • Work cross-functionally with IT, business analysts, and developers to update, transition, and maintain the existing commission system.

  • Support the Head of Remuneration in maintaining accurate and up-to-date database records.

  • Leverage ERP and database systems to support reporting, calculations, and process improvement.

  • Payroll Operations
  • Support the Head of Remuneration with weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll processing requirements.

  • Perform payroll reconciliations and provide support to the accounting team as required.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant payroll legislation, including wages and payroll tax obligations.

  • ### 🎯 What We're Looking For
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in payroll, remuneration, or commission administration (5+ years highly regarded)
  • Proven experience calculating commissions and incentive payments
  • Strong analytical and data modelling skills
  • Experience working with ERP systems, databases, and reporting tools
  • Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Solid understanding of payroll legislation, payroll tax, and compliance requirements
  • A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify and implement efficiencies
  • ### ⚡What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary

  • A genuinely unique and specialised role with scope for development and impact.

  • Collaborative team environment working alongside experienced professionals in remuneration and finance.

  • Based in Byron Bay -  a great lifestyle location with a tight-knit, professional team.

  • 🌟 Why Join Smart Energy?

    • Join one of Australia's fastest-growing home electrification companies
    • Be part of a business backed by Rinnai Australia
    • High-impact specialist role with genuine ownership
    • Work alongside passionate, high-performing teams
    • Ongoing career development opportunities
    • Vibrant Byron Bay HQ location
    • Help accelerate Australia's transition to a more sustainable future

If you're passionate about payroll, data, remuneration, and building smarter systems, we'd love to hear from you.
