About the Role
Attentive’s Developer Experience team owns the infrastructure and tooling that 200+ engineers use every day to build and ship software across our Java/Spring Boot Gradle monorepo running on AWS. The team’s charter spans CI/CD, local development tooling, service scaffolding and conventions, CLI tooling, test infrastructure, and the AI integration layer that powers modern software development workflows.
As a Staff Software Engineer on the Developer Experience team, you’ll serve as the technical leader for Attentive’s AI-assisted developer platform and foundational engineering productivity systems. This role sits at the intersection of developer infrastructure, platform engineering, and AI tooling, with responsibility for shaping how engineers across the company build, test, and ship software. You’ll partner closely with engineers across the organization to identify friction points, drive adoption of new workflows, and define the future of developer productivity at Attentive.
This is a highly cross-functional role with significant organizational visibility. Success requires strong technical judgment, architectural leadership, and the ability to influence engineering practices at scale through both technology and collaboration.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Define and drive the technical strategy for Attentive’s AI-assisted developer experience platform, including context systems, orchestration layers, and developer tooling integrations
- Lead architecture decisions and author RFCs/ADRs that shape developer infrastructure and platform standards across the engineering organization
- Build and evolve systems that improve developer productivity, code quality, and engineering velocity across a large-scale monorepo environment
- Improve the reliability, scalability, and usability of local development environments, CI/CD systems, and internal developer tooling
- Partner directly with engineers and teams across the organization to identify bottlenecks, gather feedback, and drive adoption of new tooling and platform capabilities
- Own and evolve internal CLI tooling and service scaffolding systems that standardize engineering workflows and improve service discoverability
- Mentor engineers on technical design, architecture, documentation, and platform engineering best practices
- Lead cross-functional collaboration around engineering standards, developer workflows, and AI-assisted development practices
Your Expertise
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with significant experience building and operating large-scale developer platforms, CI/CD systems, or internal engineering productivity tooling
- 4+ years of experience working with build systems and continuous integration platforms such as Gradle, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Bazel, Buildkite, or similar technologies
- 4+ years of experience designing and scaling developer infrastructure within large monorepo or distributed service environments
- Proficiency in TypeScript and hands-on experience building systems in Java and/or Python
- 1+ years of hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tooling, coding agents, context systems, MCP integrations, or related developer AI workflows
- Strong architectural and systems design skills, including experience authoring RFCs, ADRs, and cross-team technical proposals
- Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces and independently define technical roadmaps and investment priorities
- Experience driving adoption of platform initiatives across multiple teams and engineering organizations
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence engineers and stakeholders across varying technical domains
- Passion for developer productivity, platform ergonomics, and building systems that scale both technically and organizationally
What We Use
- Our engineering organization primarily builds in a Java / Spring Boot Gradle monorepo running on AWS
- Our CI/CD infrastructure is powered by CircleCI and GitHub Actions, alongside internal orchestration layers for parallel test execution and distributed build workflows
- Our developer tooling ecosystem is primarily built in TypeScript and includes internal CLI tooling, service scaffolding, deployment tooling, troubleshooting utilities, and local development infrastructure
- Our AI-assisted developer platform includes coding agents, context systems, MCP integrations, orchestration tooling, AI-powered PR review workflows, and guardrails designed to make AI-assisted development reliable at scale
- Our data and test infrastructure leverages Python-based tooling alongside technologies and patterns such as Snowflake, Meltano/Singer pipelines, deterministic ID transformation, PII scrubbing, and referential integrity preservation
- Our local development and testing systems are designed to shift testing left, enabling engineers to work against production-like environments and datasets directly from their local workflows
