Senior / Staff Manufacturing Engineer - High Voltage Battery Assembly

Zoox

Posted about 4 hours ago

The Manufacturing Engineering team at Zoox bridges the gap between vehicle architecture and scaled, physical production by planning, developing, and implementing our advanced assembly lines. We thrive on a collaborative culture marked by openness, innovation, and supportive technical problem-solving to help make cities safer, smarter, and more sustainable.

As a key technical owner, you will transition complex battery architectures from prototype environments into scaled, automated production lines. This role offers deep professional growth as you collaborate across hardware, software, and safety teams to drive the manufacturing strategy for our proprietary energy storage systems.

This position requires ~25% travel.

### In this role, you will
  • Define and execute the manufacturing strategy, assembly sequences, and tooling requirements for high-voltage battery packs and modules.

  • Lead factory layout planning, clean room specifications, and specialized environmental controls to ensure safe and efficient component handling.

  • Develop, validate, and standardize critical battery manufacturing processes, focusing on precision laser welding and automated cell handling.

  • Implement rigorous End-of-Line testing procedures, including high-potential and leak testing, while enforcing strict high-voltage safety and electrostatic discharge protocols.

  • Partner with Battery and Powertrain design engineering teams during early development phases to optimize layouts for automated assembly, thermal management, and serviceability.

  • Author comprehensive engineering standards, process failure mode analyses, and technical requirements for automated production lines.

  • Manage technical relationships with tier-1 equipment suppliers and integrators from initial concept through factory acceptance testing and final line commissioning.

  • ### Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

  • At least 8 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with a focus on launching electric vehicle battery pack or module assembly lines, or equivalent experience.

  • Technical expertise in battery-specific manufacturing processes alongside high-voltage safety standards and electrostatic discharge compliance protocols.

  • Experience generating equipment specifications and managing technical deliverables with tier-1 integrators, including a willingness to travel for vendor buyoffs and tool installations.

  • Proficiency with engineering design and layout tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD.

  • ### Bonus Qualifications
  • Experience scaling manufacturing operations within a greenfield or brownfield automotive or energy storage environment.

  • Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management and Manufacturing Execution Systems platforms within an automated production facility.

  • Experience utilizing factory simulation software to model line flow and optimize operational efficiency.
